Cameron Stewart speaks to the Fail - let's hope that he comes good! Hull City's Cameron Stewart: 'I'll prove critics wrong' CAMERON Stewart says he's determined to silence his critics once and for all by recapturing his best form in a Hull City shirt this season. The 21-year-old winger endured a roller-coaster campaign with the Tigers in 2011-12 after he battled back from a nine-month injury lay-off in November. A string of brilliant performances announced Stewart's return in style but when two bids from Leicester City were rejected in January, the rookie's season tumbled into an irreversible tailspin. That alarming slump led a section of fans to question his commitment to the cause as City's stuttering finale sought a fall guy. Ahead of a new campaign, however, Stewart has hit back at those assumptions, stressing his desire has never been in doubt. "People judged me without knowing the story," Stewart told the Mail. "People were saying that when a bid came in from Leicester and Nigel Pearson that my head was turned. "That was frustrating for me because people don't know me. That's not what I'm about. "I never wanted to leave, I never asked to leave and I never asked for Leicester to put in a bid. It was all out of my control. "Then it became a matter of me trying too hard or over-thinking things when people were on my back. Really I should have just focused on my football and not on other people." Stewart, who won a call-up to the England under-21s ranks in February, has again been the subject of transfer speculation this summer. Scottish giants Celtic were reportedly trailing the former Manchester United youth last month but, having learned from his experiences in January, Stewart is keen not to get sidetracked. He added: "I've heard rumours floating around different websites and newspapers but I'm only concentrating on Hull City. "I've got two years left here and I'm really happy. I've got no intentions of going anywhere else." Stewart has returned for pre-season training this week with more reason than most to catch the eye of new boss Steve Bruce. Knee ligament damage in February 2011 ruled him out of last season's preparations and he admits his extended spell on the sidelines eventually took its toll. City head to Portugal on Saturday for a week of warm-weather training and Stewart is eager to get started. "It's a very big pre-season for me getting up to full fitness," he said. "Twelve months ago I obviously missed the pre-season tour, all of the pre-season games and only came into the side in November. "I think everyone could see it took a lot out of me after a few months. No matter how much I tried to say it wasn't catching up with me, it was always going to. "To get a full pre-season under my belt will be great for me." http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-16482164-detail/story.html?
Sounds hungry, should we have an in form, fully fit and a 'can-do' attitude Cameron Stewart, we should do very well indeed.
I like the way he's come out and said it - instead of sulking/mooching as he looked to be doing last season.
He can certainly play when he's on form, let's hope he turns it on again for the new season, it's a good strong statement from the lad.
Yeah, I thought the lad's confidence would have been in tatters from last Season, but to come out and say that shows he was just in a bad patch of form trying to regain match fitness. This Season will hopefully bring the best out of him and spur on the other players such as Evans, Dudgeon and Chester to remain performing at the level they are.
Good for him. Must suck sometimes these days with the internet being a footballer. Everyone's an expert and there's a ready audience for the most ******ed views. The guys like Aaron Mac who use twitter a lot, and even deal with the bigots and haters have my utmost respect. I hope Cam finds his form again, he could be vital for us in the long run.
"Then it became a matter of me trying too hard or over-thinking things when people were on my back. Really I should have just focused on my football and not on other people." This is definitely what he did. You could see him actually thinking about what he was going to do hence making it really obvious, rather than just doing what came naturally. It was perpetually like a striker on a one-on-one with too much time and over thinking the finish.
Just goes to show that negativity from the fans towards individuals really is counter productive and there could be argument for it been the difference between a playoff spot and where we finished. I hope these people learn their lesson from this but doubt they will.
I was positive with Stewart through last Season, I was one of the fans egging him on every time he got the ball, but you can understand fans frustrations when there was a lot of belief in him, then he'd lose the ball numerous amount of times and fans just choose to give up on him. This Season is the Season Stewart has to prove it was just because he hadn't played for 9 months that he found a dip in form.
The first thing that struck me about that article was "Where does he get his information from". The answer is the social networking sites. Sometimes you think more information really isn't a good thing. It is a good strong statement, but now he's got to go out and prove he's sincere.
There was alot of the times where he went off the boil in matches, but on many occassions the opposition singled him out as a danger and doubled up on him. Those tactics worked a treat.
Well said Strov. There's this expectation that we know everything, now, and we're entitled to know everything, right now too and I believe it IS really counter productive. Of course I dont want the club operating under a massive veil of secrecy, and the players do need to be held to account for somethings, but the ability of the keyboard warrior, who more than likely was picked last in primary school during football games to type utterly destructive ****e is annoying. Players like Bullard were clearly taking the piss and treated the fans of various clubs with contempt, players like Cam and Maclean try their hardest, and whilst they might let some crap get them down, they keep fighting and try to be the best they can. They are only young lads, with a very small window of opportunity to achieve anything with their lives, the pressure was always pretty high, twitter, blogs and so called fan sites just up the ante. As fans we should support them, in the long run it could make all the difference.
Glad that Cammy has come out and said how he feels. Hopefully it will shut up once and for all ther few neg heads who have lambasted him over nothing. It was far to simple to simply blame the silly Lesta bid back in January. Ive said all along that Stewart hit a wall last season. It was going to happen as anyone who has played the game knows full well. Now he will get a full pre-season under his belt and witrh a point to prove again other teams had better watch out. Olifinjana is another in the same situation. Good luck to both. Skin em alive Cammy.
fair play to the lad. he'll do very well for us this season i think. hopefully bruce can get the best out of him.
I'm glad he made this statement because a young-hungry-in form Cameron Stewart is exactly what we need
The summer break will have done him good...time to reflect and a new manager to come back with a clean slate and impress.....I expect great things from him this season...which starts next month!
He didn't look raring to go when I saw him this afternoon in St Stephens but then the poor kid was being dragged round the shops by his Mrs....
I for one was so frustrated with Stewart last season with the way his head dropped the instant he made a mistake. In one game he tried to make one of those thrilling runs down the wing,we know he well capable of. He was easily tackled, but that wasn't the bad. He visibly wilted like a spoilt 5 year old,and dissapeared for the rest of the game. Thing is,this was in the second minute of the the game. You need to big up Cam,because you are frightening when on form, and you will only get better,if you fight for it. The terrible truth for Hull fans is,if you do fulfill your potential,we would definately lose you to the Premier. (Even if were there ourselves). Back up what you say Cam. For your own career and us lot in the stands.
