<peacedove>I do not think a Goal keeper would allow a ball to purposely end in the back of the net he is guiding.
Even David James saved a penalty last weekend.Because Goal keepers are the last line of defence, they get blamed easily for soft goals Like De Gea Manchester United Goal keeper on Saturday footbal pundits are blaming him for the two goals, the first one they said it was his fault for not controlling his area.
The second one they said it is saveable by his leg.The young man was under pressure, even
Sir Alex Ferguson refused to blame him publicly: we are not sure of what he said privately.
Goal keepers make mistakes but some of the criticism against them are not fair.
The first time I heard the word "calamity keeper" was the time David James was at Liverpool, he had his good and bad times.<ok>

well all i can say is if you send out your keeper sub to warm up after the lad messes up then i'm afraid that speaks volumes tothe kid.

Ferguson has no faith in de gea just like he has no faith in berbatov.

dodgy keepers are not uncommon, like massimo tiaibi... james went on to have a long and mostly distingushed career... freidal did likewise. howard is one of the prems most consistnet. the whole issue is not if de gea is muck but if ferguson will give him the time and space to develop into the top class player he could be. Sending out lindegard to warm up indicates a pressurization of the lad.

In the end I reckon ferguson might just move him on.....

The term was coined for David James so they could call him Calamity James- someone's best effort at wit.
He wasn't truly awful, just inconsistent. A lot of keepers are, it's the toughest job on the pitch.
Pepe in his first season flapped at crosses all over the show but look at what he developed into over time.
Who can tell how De Gea will turn out? At the moment he doesn't seem good enough for a team like Utd but who knows?
I think he lacks authority at the moment, he needs to make the ball his when it comes near him. The fact that his defence crowded him out for our first goal perhaps showed that they lack confidence in him, but it backfired on them.
Don't think he can be blamed too much for the second- yes it was close to him, but it was low and hard and he had little time to adjust his feet.
As I said on the match thread, I almost felt sorry for him.
    But it was Utd.
    And we won.
    So I'm chuffed.:)

Schmeichel struggled in his first season and he was more experienced than De Gea. De Gea needs time to improve and for his confidence to grow.

Fair enough mate, he's young and will probably get better. Must be terrifying with him between the sticks at the moment though.

Meh, I said at the start of the season that De Gea was not worth £20m and that statistically he had conceded more goals than any other Ath. Madrid goalie in the last 10 years (goal/game ratio) and so far i've been proved completely right.

The problem Sir Alex has, is that he can't afford to give a wobbly goalkeeper time, its the one position where a new player has to hit the ground running and if they dont then it causes real issues. Another example of this is Gomes at Spurs, he was **** so they went out and brought the experienced Fridel... who has Cudacini as back up... this makes me appreciate Reina that little bit more

Confidence will do naff all for him, while he's still a 9 stone nerd with bum-fluff facial hair. He needs to bulk up by 5 stone and get some stubble. When he is being pinned to his line by Skrtel and Kelly, no amount of self confidence will help. He may as well have been stood behind a brick wall. His only chance would have been to say "excuse me" and hope one of them had manners!

True, and that's a bit part of why they're currently 3rd in the table. How many goals did Gomes concede through error in important games? I certainly remember the Chelsea one. It actually wasn't a goal (he stopped it on the line), but he should have saved it in the first place.
