Cabaye missed Toon’s 2-1 defeat against Swansea yesterday, and the gaffer says the Frenchmen is get a second opinion on the injury which doesn’t look good.

    Pardew said:

“He’s having a second opinion his groin injury. We think he might need a little bit of surgery there.”

Pardew also revealed that Jonas Gutierrez’ injury isn’t as bad as first thought. The Argentinian was 50/50 for today’s match and is likely to feature next weekend.

The bigger concern is Cabaye – a player who has struggled for form all season and could now face a considerable spell on the sidelines.

This is why getting of both Barton and Guthrie was a mistake. We have no central playermaker after Cabaye.

Regardless of opinions on Guthrie (you know mine), keeping him wasn't an option. I'd have liked to keep Barton but I think there was definitely an argument for getting rid if you are a chairman and owner. Time for Abeid for me. Looked a classy young player pre season, creative and is best suited to a Cabaye type role as opposed to defensive midfield. I don't know if there are others issues we are unaware of but I'd like to see him involved.

Gutting with Cabaye and Jonas, tough to take.

Lee Ryder has just tweeted that Cabaye could be out until January, if true it just caps the end of a very frustrating weekend!

    Cheers <ok>

If true and he is out until January, then for be Ben Arfa would definitely need to deployed centrally. If he was stuck out wide right we'd become even more predictable.

I second the call for Abeid. He's quite lightweight but sandwiched between the muscle of Tiote and Ameobi they'd help create space for him to work his magic. He's VERY creative (but maybe a little selfish on the ball).

Heard nothing but good about Abeid, and from the little I've seen of him I've been impressed. He looks like a very neat, classy little player. Thinks and acts quickly.

So in other words we ar ****ed!!!!! this is why I said we needed top keep Guthrie as he can pass and shoot- we have nobody even remotely good enough in terms of creating in CM.

I'm saying it now we are going to finish bottom half not even mid table because our club thought arrogantly last summer.

Expect player unhappyness and forced sales from the like of Ba and Ben Arfa this January.

Simply wasn't an option as he wanted to leave so not even worth looking back. Abeid already looks a better player.

If Cabaye needs surgery on his injury then the sooner it's carried out the better. There is no point in delaying this, as the sooner it's carried out the sooner he will recuperate and return to training.
Too many times players carry on with niggles and only compound their injuries and the ability to recover from them them by delaying the inevitable.
We have other options in midfield and whilst they may be young and inexperienced, at least we have options, which in other areas is not the case.
I would like to see Abeid given a chance to show what he can do, if as has been suggested he is a little greedy on the ball, the best way to address this is to play him with the senior squad, who l am sure will help him to improve. If you think back to the early criticisms of Benny, ie. To expensive with possession, didn't track back to help defensively enough, l would say that he has learnt to do better in both those respects with experience and an understanding of both his managers and team mates expectation.

Ok then we should have bought a player that has a similar passing range but we didnt - Anita is not the same type of player at all and what I'm saying is we stood still the summer and ruined everything again - all the other teams we edged last season have built and moved forward.

Not good news. Would it be possible to get our best 11 on the pitch for more than a game or two in a row?? I know people get injured and we have suspensions and that but it just seems that every time one player comes back another goes out! <steam>

I think this is forgotten in some peoples criticism. Its all very well saying "we should have bought more" but the reality is they run the club in a frugal manner. People need to get their head round this. The answer is no longer in the cheque book. We are hindered by injuries more than the top clubs who can just drop another top class player in.

For example in our excellent run of 11 games or so unbeaten at the beginning of last year, how many changes were made to the starting 11? Particularly with regard to key players who make us tick like Colo, Saylor, Cabaye, Tiote, Ba, etc.
