Article about 5 other players who played football and cricket...most famous being Compton. Sadly, we won't see the like again because professional sportsmen now have to make a choice.

It's a shame that the schedules of sports at a professional level don't allow for talented sports people to participate in multi sports.

There is a great 30 for 30 ESPN documentary about Bo Jackson and the fight and struggle he had to go through to be able to play American Football and Baseball in the late 80s, even at high school/college level.
 
It's not just the schedules...your contracted club wouldn't be that happy if you play a professional team sport. I suppose there is nothing stopping you if you play an individual sport, but I think you need to practice so hard to be top at one sport it would be very difficult to train physically for another. In the past, athletes didn't train so full on and the seriously gifted could do well in multisports.
 
Goes to show how bloody incredible Jessica Ennis-Hill and Daley Thompson are, when they are able to smash it in seven/ten different sports.
