There is only one reason to discuss your future after a World Cup, IMO, and that is to determine what interest you've drummed up with your performances. To me, this is screaming out "I'm available to the highest bidder". I am not surprised. Nor am I bothered particularly. http://the72.co.uk/103003/leeds-united-star-discuss-future-world-cup/ Pontus Jansson is Leeds United’s sole representative at the 2018 World Cup in Russia this Summer, and Leeds fans will be routing for him and the Swedish national team. However, some slightly worrying news for fans of the Yorkshire club is that Jansson has told the Swedish media that he will sit down and discuss his future once the Swedes have been knocked out of the World Cup. The 27-year-old defender has been linked with a move away from Elland Road for a long time now, and following Leeds United’s poor season this time round, Premier League teams may feel they have the capabilities to prize him away cheaply. Jansson was questioned about his future by Swedish media outlet Fotbollskanalen, but he refused to give anything away. As quoted by Inside Futbol, the central defender said: “I have told Martin Dahlin, my agent, that we will discussing everything after the World Cup. There is no need to speculate over it now.” “Both me and the wife feel really good.” Leeds United fans are still recovering from an extremely disappointing season, which at one point held so much promise. The Whites were unbeaten in their first seven games, and it seemed that everything was going well and that their summer recruitment had worked brilliantly. However, that was not the case, and this is one of the most important summer’s in the club’s history. It is crucial that Paul Heckingbottom gets the recruitment spot on this summer as they look to improve on last season’s 13th place finish.
To be fair to big Pontus, it gives him a chance to see what happens at the club regarding PH's future, are we going to land Bartley and maybe a decent more experienced keeper than BPF etc...If we don't show any ambition, then realistically why would the guy want to stay if he has genuine ambition of playing at a higher level and not just taking the money and making the right kind of noises.
Cynical old me reckons he's not even thought of that possibility. I'm guessing his thinking is more along the lines of 'what's in it for me'?
Sorry, somehow missed your post. I have no problem with what he says, tbh. I understand it, but I don't like it. However it should NEVER be for public consumption. If he says it to Radz in private, fair enough, and it could be classed as genuine concern. When he goes public like this, he's looking for offers IMO. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind.
£12-15m? I'd bite their hands off. He's not worth half of that even when he plays well. If I can remember that far back.
So instead of a brilliant Bartley Pontus partnership a year ago we’ll likely have a pair of kids on 2k a week trying to do the same job. Can’t beat it, that’s the Leeds way
And still great value Gessa. Eight euros for two pints. Hard to beat that. Only two hour drive for me
Paid for one of Germany’s best strikers on a season loan though. What more could you expect #onlyonelasogga
Well, I have said previously that I wouldn't mind if it took selling one of our better assets so that we could afford to terminate a lot of the dross. That's what I would be looking to do if I was Radz and didn't have loads of cash to spend on next season. We don't want loads of deadwood around the place if we are going to give the youngsters a go.
Hardly a surprise, he is 27 so about to enter his prime years last chance of a big contract. If it looks like the club are pissing around with no serious intent of promotion why would he stay? We all love the club, to him it is just a place of work. Back from Spain by the way I'm sad to say.
