He said 7 wins after the Charlton game. Not so sure on that but everything he's done so far has been spot on. Anyway, whatever your opinion it's looking good. Take your pick........ A Bolton H Birmingham A Crystal Palace A Burnley H Nottingham Forest A Huddersfield H Watford H Middlesbrough A Ipswich A Wolves H Bristol City A Barnsley H Cardiff Easy peasy? No, but what an outstanding position to be in.
Would be the 6 wins I think we'll lookn best at getting. I do think that we'll need to win 9 more though. Those 9 wins alone would give us 89 points.
Since we are starting to flourish while other teams are getting jittery I'd say no game was out of our reach. Two fans told me that Blackburn would beat us last night - I laid hands on them and said, "Be healed of this negative fantasy."
We would be lucky to go up automatically with only 80 points, needed 88 last year, so that requires us to need the equivalent of 8 wins and a draw still.
Stating the obvious I know but it depends on what Watford & Palarse do the run in - in 0708 we finished third on 75 points and almost got auto but for the final day defeat at Ipswich and Stoke gaining at least a point to grab second spot.
I didn't say 7 wins and 7 defeats (which would be 6 and 7 now) - more like 7 wins, 7 draws (now 6/7) which would give us 62 + 18 + 7 = 87 points.
Id say 10 wins is more likely and easily doable to be honest. The thing is we could quite easily lose 10 as well....
SB said 12 more wins back in January. Since then we have won 4 so I make it another 8 which would give us 86pts. Throw in 3 or 4 draws and that's about right. Another 6 wins alone will not be enough.
I wouldn't bother guessing how many games we have to win to go up automatically. We should be taking things one game at a time, especially considering the form of the team right on our tail.
The problem with trying to predict how many points to go up etc is that you can only base it on what has happened in previous seasons. This is OK for a guideline but this just might be the season whereby 87 pts, for example, isn't enough for automatic. We just need to keep winning games until we cannot be caught by whichever team is in third place....
We now have 62 points from 33 games which is an average of just under 2 points a game so with 13 games left i think we still need another 24/25 points to gain promotion. I know every single game is a cup final now and there is still 39 points to play for so there is still a long way to go, lose a game Watford win and we are out of the promotion places so it would be nice to increase the lead to 4 points to give us a bit of leeway, i also think these next four games is such a crucial period because we have three away, Bolton, Burnley and Crystal Palace and Birmingham in between at home. If we do get through this difficult period and are still second then i really will begin to dream
In our last 13 league games we have won 8, draw 3 and lost 2 and gained 27 points. If we do that again I can't see us being lower then second.
It's all a bit academic - essentially Watford and Palace are the proverbial 6 pointers. On another note I thought I did my bet e/w but Ive just checked and it was a tenner (a free bet mind) on the title at 25/1. Is that beyond us....?
Agreed, Watford, Palace and possibly Cardiff are our remaining big ones. They are our main competitors and they are the matches we have to win if we are serious about an automatic spot
Take 3 points from each of these games and automatic promotion will take care of itself. Impossible? Who would have thought that we would make Blackburn look more ordinary than an ordinary thing last night. Stay injury free and nothing and no one will stop us!
I did title tenner at 35/1, promo 20 quid at 10/1, stakes were all profit from my Spain to win euro 2012 bet, so potentially £580 to line my pockets with.
Don't think its that simple or straightforward. Suppose we win on Saturday while Palace get beat at Sheff Wed and suppose we retain that 7 point gap the following Saturday? Given that scenario Palace could beat us and still be four points behind us. Also there's a lot of games before we play Watford - who knows how close the teams will be by then? Just saying like.
