At the beginning of the 2010 season Hamilton said in an interview on the BBC that Alonso was the best/toughest team-mate he has had. It would appear though that Button has taken that mantle away from Alonso (which I am sure he is devastated about), Hamilton has said "It's about your presence in the team, the comments you make, your persona and your behaviour when you win and when you lose. Jenson is definitely the best overall package I've been up against,"
hmm... I read that as mind games to Alonso, rather than praising Button. Hamilton had all the advantages in 2007 and still tied on points with Alonso. Last year, with the exception of the first 4 races, Hamilton was comfortably the better driver. Let's face it, if F1 fans were asked to decide who is better between Button and Alonso, the majority would pick Alonso. This could also be one of those "I see Alonso as my Prost" moments, where Hamilton is making himself look a lot better than he actually is - in other words, just arrogance.
I think Lewis is happy at McLaren as he is still Top dog. If Button was constantly beating him he would have a different view. My personal view is he had a bigger challenge against Alonso than he does now with Button or did with Kovi
I tend to agree with you on that. However whereas on average Alonso is a better driver (although I think when Button is on it he is quicker than Alonso) Button is probably a better team-mate than Alonso. It probably just rests on people's definitions of 'best' and 'toughest'.
Funny you should say that, because its the mind games divers like Alonso and Schumacher, like to play all through the pre season!!!
(spin doctor) So Lewis openly admits Ron Dennis favored him over Alonso. Button is on equal pecking order with Lewis because of whitmarsh, maybe that's why he's tougher as a teammate. (sarcasm) It all makes sense now.... Mclaren don't like anybody that isn't British!!!!! How could I of been so stupid!
