Guys If the takeover does not happen then we would be better off forcing Bates PLC to go bust. I know it is a serious measure akin to what has happened to Rangers, yet personally I would prefer to go bust and start again in the Conference if it got rid of Ken Bates and Shaun Harvey. If we had done this after Ridsdale, surely we would have been in a better position than we are going into next season...! Thoughts....
Given Bates's history he'd just find a way of buying back the club from the creditors. The best hope we have is for the elderly Bates to have one too many glasses of vin rouge and keel over, or for the takeover to actually happen. At the moment we have a squad that would survive in the Championship but is unlikely to achieve promotion. The worst case scenario is that Bates continues as owner and we muddle along as an under-resourced mid-table side. The only way we could go down is if we went into administration.
To be honest, three years in League 1 was enough. Bates surely isn't going to live another 10 years. That's how long it could take to get back up the leagues, especially if Leeds didn't get placed in the Conference, but in the very bottom tier of football - which is where ever other team that has gone bust had to start. Give it a couple of years and if he still is here then i suggest starting a charitable fund to pay for a skilled assassin. www.pleasekillbates.org or www.pleasekillbates4.me.uk are still available.
If Bates, Lorimer or Harvey are involved in another administration in their lifetimes, they will be unable to gain "fit and proper person" status and so will be out of football forever. So it won't happen. If we keep the pressure on, Bates has to sell, at whatever price. And if it starts to really go pearshaped, we may see Harvey doing something rather nasty to Bates in a hasty pique of revenge
