Looks like time is up for Bury as their takeover talks have broken down.

Bolton presumably have just an hour now for something to happen.

Whilst I'm sure there will be phoenix clubs in both towns, this is entirely damning for the state of the game and the football authorities.

My first instinct was to blame the current owners of both clubs, which might be a little unfair. It could just be a culmination of previous owners who have made bad choices.

I don't know much about Bury, but as for Bolton, surely a lot of blame has to be sided on the owners (or whoever was running the club) back when they were in the premiership. They throw so many millions away, signing top players they couldn't afford, and paying them ridiculous wages.

I know we all (well, most of us) have a go at ME for not splashing the cash, but i take my hat off to him for not going crazy and putting our club at jeopardy financially.

Going back to Bury n Bolton - if they do both fold, i wonder if they'd do a merger, seeing as they are so close geographically

Very hard to apportion blame @ Bolton. Sam Allardyce was vocally critical of their underinvestment when they were in Europe and the owner wiped all of his, and over half of their total debt of £125m of £200m. Then Dean Holdsworth and his consortium took over and his company went bust and the new owner took over. That is my understanding of it.

A very complicated situation, I'm sure the Bolton fans will know more. But really it's similar to Town in that you could point the finger for our problems @ Sheepshanks, but Marcus Evans has a lot to answer for in terms of his decision making too.

The question now is, why aren't these owners' allowing the new prospective owners to take over when they stand to be liquidated anyway?

In some cases there may be a truly terrible or reckless owner but I think the truth is actually that football's business model is broken.

It’s raising questions on their forum as to whether they have a strong enough squad to survive in the Premiership!!

At least they drew the second half :emoticon-0140-rofl:

Bolton survive, takeover complete. In many ways it makes it even sadder news for Bury - but good news for Town as our 5-0 result will stand. So that’s League One settled.

But meanwhile in Westminster all hell breaks loose.

To try and pretend it’s about anything other than Brexit is just insulting our intelligence.

At long last we have a Prime Minister with the Balls to carry out the wishes of the majority in this country that voted to leave the EU.

    Good on him.

Pity he doesn’t have the balls to admit why he’s doing it that way rather than the BS about it being “standard procedure” to shut down Parliament.

Well not really. Only 51% of leave voters (YouGov) think it's acceptable. About 9 million people. 20% of the electorate and about 14% of the population.

    Hardly a majority.

Most of those that do probably believe all the bullshit that is coming out of Johnson's mouth, just as they did at the referendum.

We shall see. I'm sure reasoned logic will win out over mindless posturing and lies in the long run.

I think Johnson’s painted himself into a smaller and smaller corner with all his bluff and bluster about “trying” to get a better deal from the EU.

It looks like it will be a question of who blinks first with the hard line Brexiteers doing their utmost to keep “no deal” on the table even at the expense of totalitarian tactics.

Just a few weeks ago he said he would not do this because he wants to find consensus and aspires to be the Prime Minister of a democratic nation.

    Game, set and match really.
