As reported in the HDM He is known for his motor-mouth and his sporting opinions. But after a shake-up at BBC Radio Humberside, sports editor David Burns will now be tackling the morning show, replacing Lara King. From Monday, Burnsy, as he is affectionately known to listeners, will bring his own kind of magic to the airwaves. Known for his radio personality, he will swap sporting banter for topical chatter with listeners on both sides of the Humber. For 15 years, fans have heard him follow the fortunes of the Tigers as he commentates on matches home and away. More recently, he has also been the voice of the hugely popular Sportstalk show, aired just after 6pm. He will continue to cover the Tigers, but fans of Sportstalk heard him on the show for the final time last night. A spokesman for the BBC told the Mail the reason for the shake-up was down to the decision to refresh the mid-morning schedule. Simon Pattern, managing editor of BBC Radio Humberside, said: "Lara King has done an excellent job for us for the past few years and will continue to play an important role across the station's output. "We are delighted that David will bring his extensive broadcasting experience Thanks for nothing you fat twat & good riddance !! UTT
Blundersides regulars are up in arms about this apparently and want Lara King to stay in her slot- can't blame them, if I had to listen to Blunderside in the morning I wouldn't want to be listening to Burns!
I will always remember OUR Burnsie for the TWS away game last season. Before the game he announced his EXCLUSIVE live that he had inside info that the Allams had pulled out of the City purchase. 10 mins later HDM online sprung the news that the deal had been completed. Sums Dave Burns up. Stupid, naive and always eager to be first to the scoop (good or bad, confirmed or unconfirmed)
Mike White to be the voice of the tigers from now on, I'd like that he's a good friend of mine. NP do'nt like him much though
I think that's when a lot of fans had had enough of him, I remember listening and feeling pretty bad about the Allems pulling out, serves me right for taking the word of that goon
I can't remember Nigels exact response, but you could feel the awkwardness coming through the speakers.
what i get from hearing interviews with np is that he is a psycologcal mile ahead of the interviewers.
Getting the Tigers to the top level was fantastic, remember he was the only radio humberside gobsh...ite to ever do that. I understand he was offered a job with radio preston but his assistant swanny wouldnt go so he turned it down. Also he will be on prem wages so the beeb need to either move him on or get more out of him.I think the ploy is to put him in the window and hope that someone comes in for him before the new season and Lara King will be back after her summer hols.
Here in Oz I can only get Hull City Matchday's (hullcitylive.co.uk) but I had to give it away as it was pathetic. Commentators talking to themselves, about themselves and anything that took their fancy intersparsed with the odd "...and there's a throw in to Hull City"! I now use ESPN's Gamecast which although only textspeak is far better. Remember, we are listening to this at midnight or 2.00am depending on the daylight saving whilst watching an EPL game live.
