This was a big improvement on our previous game down south. Passing was better, more shots at goal (13) with 4 on target, and 2 of those hitting the inside of onion bag. Possession, and the game in general was pretty even with Burnley shaving it with 51% of possession. Burnley had 26 shots with 6 on target, and 2 goals, very good performance by our lads. What was looking like a 0-0 draw and heading to penalties, all of a sudden everything happened in last 10 mins of normal time. Hernandez did a brilliant defence splitting pass to Sacko who ran nearly half the pitch to bang the ball between their keepers legs to put Leeds 1-0 up, Sacko does a nutmeg. C'mon, be honest, who was wondering about Sacko at that particular moment before he shot? 9 mins later Burnley get a penalty and Wood equalises. 5 mins later Leeds get a penalty for a shirt pull on Roofe. Hernandez, as cool as you like stepped up to make it 2-1 to Leeds. Most thought we would win it from there, but no, another twist of fate saw Burnley score from a free kick only 2 minutes later, effing hell, my bum cheeks were clenched and my stomach was in knots, what more could happen........nothing, ref blew for full time, and then extra time, then the penalty shootout. Leeds won the shootout thanks mainly to Lonegan saving a penalty, Dallas then stepped up to seal the win for Leeds, 5-3 on penalties. I got to add, what a cool, calm and collected penalty by Klich, that is professional confidence for you. Leeds now go through to next round, only 3 steps away from a trip to Wembley, which is one step away from playing in Europe. Well done the lads.
