I think we were all gutted about the penalties. Emotions all over the place to be expected Cold light of day Really good performance especially second half Le Fee could be a real game changer Jobe does thins sometimes which makes me just say wow I think Patto deserves much credit for that save One thing I would note Ballard was a wee bit lucky not to get that second yellow They are not streets ahead of us. We are definitely in this. Also how good was that block on Mayenda shot Onwards and upwards The reception at the end for Wilson was really good mind
Said similar to my sons as we walked down the steps out of the stadium. I said who would have thought that we have just drawn away to a team that had just come down from the Premiership and are second in the league and we are gutted. Shows how far we have come, with more still to come. KTF HTLs. On a side note, what an awful stand to watch the game, goalline is so close to stands I couldn't see the second tackle for the penalty or the 2 penalty saves very well - wish I was taller
Looking back now the morning after, I'm immensely proud of the way our club is ATM. The fans again were simply amazing, I do believe that this group of players are going places. There will be many points dropped by all 4 teams before the end of the season. IMO, I do think we'll finish 2nd.
Was down there last night I’ve not much to say However we played some great football and looked s class team most of the game That’s with all our 11 not on top form which is even more important we played very well And it will be a very close thing and I think we will get automatic promotion especially playing the way we did When all 11 are on there game I can’t see us loosing onward and upward
Nowt to be ashamed of Wilson lad. Footballers are human. We all get stuff wrong, every day. It is no big deal, so long as you keep trying your best. I could watch the game back and find poor bits of play from everyone. It is a team game, not an individual sport. Win, lose and draw as a team sunshine. We will still want you in our club when we are in the prem next year.
We went to Burnley, a team that has conceded only 9 goals, and got a point. After 20 minutes dominated the game. Playing without a recognised winger on the left. Saw an excellent debut from elf Yes missed 2 penalties, but there is no way why coach would stop Isidor taking the 2nd one. Hindsight is easy, but you have to let the player step up and do it in the heat of the match otherwise you're telling him he's not trusted. That would effect the player worse than anything else in the long run. Imo, there also needs to be a change, GK shouldn't be able to delay like that. 5 and a half ****ing minutes. Over 2 minutes per penalty. He should have been off. 2 yellows. And people on here, saying Rigg hasn't produced in 10 games, a 17 year old who people have previously said will be sought after by premier League clubs, and should be dropped. Blaming Neil (wtf ?) Saying Isidor is not a striker (wtf?). He's said he's a striker himself and the coach thinks he is. His goals speak for themselves Youngest squad in the league. 4 points off from a relegated team. Only Leeds left to play, the other top 4 have 2 games against eachother to play. I understand heat of the moment after the games, but some of the comments were and are ****ing ridiculous. Get a grip
Great post, couldn't agree more. With regards to the second penalty, if he had scored then people would have been saying great captaincy/management to get his confidence straight back up, including those slagging them off Got home nearly 1am and after sleeping on it my thoughts are we are right in the mix for the top 2 and I can't wait to get down to Derby on Tuesday to cheer them on again.
Yeah agree totally. It’s important that the fanbase adjust their thinking and understand what our club actually is right now. We’re an incredibly well-run club who have a plan that is working. We know it’s working as we’re currently matching teams who have WAY more chance of promotion than we do, via finance. Our history doesn’t buy players. To be honest our history during my lifetime has been far more precarious than it is now. I saw Dave Swindlehurst after all. The ‘WMS Effect’ is interesting to watch. They spent so long being right about Donald that they got into a rut and failed to adjust when things changed. There have been signs that they’re getting their heads around it this season, but I’d bet it’s fragile. It’s still couched in ‘the club changed to align with what I thought all along’ rather than the reality of a club being absolutely consistent with its plan and reaping the rewards for being so. As you say, the good thing is that they’ll largely ignore the fans and stick to their plan if we miss out this season too - and we’ll be better for it. Hopefully the clear evidence that the plan is working will mean WMS et al stick with their more positive outlook into next season come what may. There’s little doubt the club deserve that trust. For me there’s a very easy yardstick that will remain relevant for a long while yet. That’s the last XI of the pure Donald era. Just over four short years ago. Matthews McLaughlin Wright Flanagan O’Nien Power Leadbitter Scowen Hume Embleton Wyke I mean if that isn’t enough to make you offer your firstborn to KLD and Speakers I dunno what is!
There was the Le fee chance for isidor but noticed a moment when he got the ball, paused and spun away from his man before laying a pass of and relieving all the pressure, it seemed all in one motion to superb player evidently
As a side note have a Norwegian pal I check in from occasionally with, the senior regular text. todays only message, ‘penalty training today’ stings but did giggle
Yeah agree totally. Thought he did pretty well last night given the ball seemed to be more down our left. One moment that stood out to me as showing his intelligence and work for the team. There was a moment (I think) first half when Mepham charged forward to press and ended up almost alongside Isidor. Burnley worked through it and got into our half. However Roberts had spotted it and dropped into the back line to cover. I’d have to watch it again to get it straight in my head, but my memory had PR filling in as centre half! Whatever the specifics it showed a player who is team-orientated and working hard to do whatever it takes for us to succeed. I thought he had some good moments in attack in the latter stages too. He certainly deserves the start as things stand.
The only way Burnley are going up automatically, is if Sheffield United and ourselves blow up in the last 20 games.
A good way to look at where we are is v those above us. Leeds x 1 Sheff x 2 Burnley x 2 15 available. 8 taken. Excellent return really to be ‘more than half’ out of those games.
Yeah I noticed a lot of that. I think in fact Hume had dropped in cb and he was covering Hume. He kept things pretty tight down that side and I love the interplay between him and Hume. I’m not sure if Hume looks a bit leggy. We haven’t got options if Mepham is injured though.
My morning thoughts having slept on it. Apart from the first 15 minutes Burnley didn't really cause us any problems and our midfield were running rings around them. We played some lovely football and went after them while they seemed more than happy to collect a point. We missed 2 penalties which is gutting but the team will learn from this and it could be the catalyst to spur them onto even better performances. We are right in the mix for automatic promotion there is no doubt about that. Onto Derby now and 3 points
Great post. I’d have had him too. Think prior to the penalties, there were no complaints about him taking them. As soon as theyrecsaved (he didn’t miss) then everyone says someone else should take it! Ridiculous
Yeah it limits our ability to use O’Nien there. Trai started shaky but grew into it I thought. Wouldn’t be averse to bringing one in. Probably an old timer on a short contract. Think I’d like to see Seelt and Hjelde get a shot though. Coming into a far less chaotic team could well be the making of them. They’re talented enough to do it. If they can get up to speed I’d back them to do well.
Can we start realising how good we are and stop saying happy with a point and having an inferior complex against ex prem teams. When we got relegated we were useless so No guarantee they are better prepared than us to go up this year. We have an amazing group this year and as fans we should treat every game like a cup final because the stakes are very high. No guarantee that if we do not go up automatic that we will win the play-offs. If we do not go up then most of our exciting talent will be move on and this opportunity will be lost. We have supported these boys when they were just raw talent and I for one do not enjoy our best going to Palace, Ipswich or similar. We are a bigger club with the best fans and we deserve the best, so lets raise our expectations and go to games with a swagger expecting to claim 3 points. Draws will not gain top two so lets change attitudes and demand all 3 starting next week.
