Punchestown 5:20
ARCH DANCER; 15 length winner of a Liscarroll point to point. Dam only a maiden but half brother to a fair winning chaser. Small yard can have one ready but likely to be seen to better effect when going jumping.
CANYON D’AHAUT; First racing foal of an unraced dam from a yard not known for bumper winners.
QUICK GETAWAY; Dam a modest hurdle winner. Yards first bumper runner and easily dismissed.
DENT DE LION; Dam unraced but this Voix Du Nord gelding is a half brother to three useful winning jumpers including Impek and Olympian. The pick on pedigree but overlooked due to the yards modest record in this sphere.
ENDLESS REFRAIN; Dam a bumper winner and small yard capable of having one ready.
FELIX DESJY; 15 length winner of a Dromahane point. Dam unraced and two maiden half brothers have done little for the pedigree. In good hands however and no surprise to see him favourite.
GOLD SPEED; Fell first in his point. Dam the winner of one handicap chase. Looks up against it in this company.
ITSCATRIONASCHOICE; Dam a three time winner on the level and half brother is a bumper winner so lots to like on pedigree. Yard 1/16 in bumpers in last 5 years but the booking of Patrick Mullins most definitely catches the eye.
SAM CHISOLM; Dam a runner up in a point to point but this Getaway gelding must look the part as he fetched 85,000EU at the sales. Yard strong in this sphere and a likely contender.
SCORPION KNIGHT; Dam a maiden and readily dismissed.
TIPP TOE; Beaten a long way in his point to point but is a half brother to three winners including the fairly useful Heathfield. Dam unraced. Fetched 45,000EU at the sales and the solid connections have the services of the top bumper rider. Surprising if this one does not figure.
VAL MOME; Dam pulled up on only start and half brother is a once raced maiden so easily overlooked.
Conclusion; The favourite is way too short but it is not easy to find the one to oppose it with as the nicer pedigrees come from horses representing the less fancy yards. Obviously I hope DENT DE LION runs a huge race but my tentative each way selection would be for ITSCATRIONASCHOICE at 14/1. Patrick Mullins would have been courted to ride a few of these so it is interesting to see him on this one.
