How about this for a thought, with all the controversy about the GB team coming from the Welsh and the way they were booing 2 of their own players ...

Let's give them their desires, bump Cardiff and Swansea back into their precious League of Wales and replace them with Rangers and Celtic..

It wouldn't really be a big loss for the English league at all and the benefits of the huge support of the Scottish teams fan base would put us on a win,win..

Wales could be Wales,we would have the benefit of the Scottish fervour and we would not be having to feel guilty about depriving the dragon of it's independence....

    Just a thought...

So proud to be welsh but desperate to play in england, has neve made sense! As for welcoming celtic and rangers it would be the end of the majority of scottish football without the 2 big money makers so maybe not. But english teams in the english league welsh teams in the welsh league scottish teams in the scottish league, wow what a concept!!! Or perhaps we should invite paris st germain to join the championship is'nt paris to london the same time on the train as swansea to london?? (that is a educated guess no facts from rail timetables have been researched at this point)

pmsl, tell you what wurzels when you actually get into the premier league make representations then, but as you will never get there we won't be holding our breaths <laugh>

And the simple fact is the welsh teams you mention have always played in the pyramid , and there is no reference to English leagues at all in any official websites, or the football league or premier league !

    Enjoy your relegation scrap guys!

So this would be incorrect then?
The Premier League is an English professional league for association football clubs. At the top of the English football league system, it is the country's primary football taken from wikipedia!
As for the relegation scrap we will survive ours can you be that confident??

Guy's it's just a sounding board, it's a fact that the English League have allowed some Welsh teams to participate but they need us to progress,we don't need them in any way shape or form, they have their own identity and structure with-in the Football League of Wales, the management of that league and some of the Welsh supporters have shown by denial of permission for their players to participate in the Olympics and displaying a banner and booing their own fans on Saturday their true colours and thats fair enough.

If this situation was to develop the FA could replace them easily without any problems, we could invite the Glasgow clubs if they wished and it would benefit all sides or we could go bottom up and promote teams out of the Blue Square such as Luton and replace that way.

There is no need for any insults to be aimed at Bristol City Football Club, they've had no imput or influence on this discussion,it's just an idea being sounded out and if these so called larger Welsh clubs returned to their own leagues think of the help it would give to the true Welsh fans...

As I have said, "It's only a thought"....

why dont you write to your english fa and ask them to consider this. also you as a mod have put this on a bristol city board so why should we not bring bristol city into the debate. as pointed out on previous threads on this we were invited to play. we didnt ask. i still go back to the fact you only bring a handful of fans to cardiff. how many would you take to glasgow.

Both the Welsh and the Scots hate us. The Scots want a divorce from the United Kingdom and into Europe as an independent nation - good luck to them. They say the North Sea oil is theirs by rights but they didn't bother with it until the 1970s.
My younger kids are going to University in September. If they chooses a Scottish Uni they will have to pay - which sounds fair - until you see that nobody from any other nation in the WORLD is made to pay - except the English - and they get a subsidy from Westminster for their education.

They can keep their sectarian obsessed away from our league in my opinion!

Wiz it is a very small minority of idiots who are opposed to the Team GB idea. I would personally love to see Bale and Ramsey link up with England's best. Not sure whether any Scots or Northern Irish would get in though!

Internationally I support Wales first and foremost but I also see myself as British because I have both English and Irish heritage. If truth be told the only home nation I hate are the Scots. My uncle won't let me forget the fact that the Scots cheated Wales out of two World Cup qualifications.

The majority of the fans I was sat by on Saturday for the Norway game were in favour of Team GB too as long as it doesn't affect our status as a footballing nation. To those against the idea and distrustful of FIFA they need to ask themselves that if independence was truly an issue I don't think the English FA would be in favour either and the whole idea would be scraped.

Wales as a footballing nation Speed are on a dramatic rise. I have no doubt that the next qualifying campaign in a not too tricky group (Croatia, Serbia, Scotland, Belgium and Macedonia) we will come really close. Wales destroyed Norway on Saturday with entertaining attacking football. We've even started to prove we have strength in depth with the likes of Dave Edwards, James Collins, Danny Gabbidon and David Vaughan unable to get in the starting line-up. It was also pleasing to see Sam Vokes get on the score sheet twice, had he not been so unlucky with that injury against Millwall last season I really think he had something to offer us.

So in answer to your question don't let the mindless minority speak for the silent majority and I think Celtic and Rangers wouldn't offer more than Cardiff or Swansea, especially Swansea to the league. I must admit I have a soft spot for the Swans because they play football as it should be played. Del Boy is moulding us into a good passing unit so I hope we can emulate the Swans in 2-3 seasons time

I have to say I agree with Ashton Matt, being welsh and supporting City for near on 40 years,
I would love to see a GB team that consist of English, Welsh, Scots and Irish Because that is what we are British

BJA I was going to throw this one in the pot but you got there first. I once read about how it came about but would need to research it again and dont have time. To do with transport I believe, used to be by horse and cart, and travelling to a mid week fixture at Newcastle after playing Plymouth would have been a bit difficult!!!

I think they Berwick, may actually straddle the border now!

Whats that got to do with it, Scotland and NI aren't in our football pyramid (or the English football league as we prefer to call it!)

You may prefer to call it that, but you are factually not correct. Also the simple fact is that the welsh teams in the pyramid have never played in any other place except there! The Swans have been in the league since 1921 , we were invited in, and have reached the highest league on merit!

It must be galling to know that your local rivals are better than you ;) but hey ho that is the reality for you, and that is the way we prefer it.

JGF2 - Not quite, Berwick Upon Tweed (a very nice town, I visited it last year whilst staying near Lindisfarne) is most definitley in England and is several miles below the border.

However the town is still officially at war with Russia so that's a good pub quiz question.
