In the summer we had a bid accepted for Craig Mackail-Smith, me like many people was glad he didnt sign because i didnt rate him. Some people wanted him. He has now admitted he has been pretty crap for Brighton by his own standards. So what a bloody waste of 3.25M he would of been. I know Sven didnt really want him but he still went in for him. Im so glad Sven pulled out and got David Nugent instead because god knows where we would be if we did get Mackail-Smith instead of Nugent.

How many other bullets did we dodge? Shane Long has been injured alot for West Brom and we bid 7M for him. Nicky Maynard hasnt pulled up any trees all season and we bid 9M.

It just goes to show how desperate we was in the end for a striker. And lucky we ended up with Beckford and not some muppet

Scarey when you look at those bids......yet our biggest problem is our midfield! and still is. Once Drinkwater and Marshall settle we will come on leaps and bounds and improve the service into Beckford & Nugent at a cost of £2m?? not thats good business.

The midfield has been the main problem all season. Beckford has sorted himself out since the new year and Nugent has done well all season. After that we dont have much up top. But at the start of the season we all thought the midfield we our strength with Fernandes and Johnson coming in.

In the summer we need one more midfielder to add to Wellens, Danns, King and Drinkwater

Sven spent most of the money on the defence with Mills, St. Ledger, Konchesky and Peltier

Wellens is definitely benefitting from Danns' presence in midfield - hopefully this will only get better (particularly with Drinkwater snapping at their heels for a place in the starting line up)

I think the thing that has helped with Danns coming into the midfield is he had added energy which King doesnt give us. Gelson Fernandes did and i remember Forest away first half Danns and Fernandes was destroying Forest through their pace and energy. I still think we need another midfielder but that can wait until the summer now.

With Matt Oakley close to returning from injury we have cover for Danns, Wellens and Drinkwater. Oakley proved last season he is a very good option to bring on when we are hanging on

Wonder what future Franck Moussa has. Did well in the reserve match yesterday, did well when I saw him against Leeds away under Sven and then went out and did well at Donny on loan but never seems to be able to cut it here?

He was on the bench against Norwich, when he went on loan to Doncaster last season he did really well and he signed a new contract towards the end of last seasonbut Sven totally discarded him this season. He was a Paulo Sousa signing

Is Maynard still at Brizzle? I've lost count in the comings and goings! If so I'll wager he'll bang in a couple against us!

Wouldn't have minded getting Jelavic from Rangers

No 6.5M is miles too much for a striker at this level. Just think of the amount of pressure he would have to deal with, he would be expected to score every game.

How much did Everton pay for him? - would expect the pressure of delivering in the Prem would be far greater?

    Everton paid 5M

But in the prem 5M isnt alot of money to spend for a striker

Even if we paid 5M for him that fee is out of this world for the championship.

Was £5M plus they would excuse Rangers not paying around ~£2M that they owe Everton for someone that they bought from them whose name I can't remember...

    Just checked.

Years ago Rangers brought Michael Ball from Everton for 6.5M and they have only payed 5M. Everton was very understanding with them and they took 1.5M off the price tag so effectively they did pay 6.5M for Jelavic.
