That's the way I'm seeing it and yesterday was more evidence. Easy for Slade to say we should be "more clinical" in front of goal and "on another day" we would have won, but it doesn't look to me that he's able to make that happen on a regular enough basis to actually achieve something. Interesting take on the subject from Tucker on WOL and I must agree with him. Slade doesn't really know what he's got at the club and only when his hand is forced through circumstance does it start to come off. In particular the need to switch Pilks up front a few games back because of striker departures and at the same time being required to give O'Keefe a run because of it. Both have been positive moves in the main but doubt it would have happened if things had been different. We had Immers in the side scoring last week yet he sat the game out because he had two "new toys" to play with. The game in those conditions was crying out for an "Immers" type at half time but he stuck with Lawrence and brought on Zohore and Macheda far too late. I remain convinced that we will lurch from good to bad to indifferent in our games whilst Slade holds the reins. I don't believe he's a enough good manager at this level.
Have to agree Sparks although I thought Lawrence got better as the game progressed. Despite the lack of goals it was in the middle of the park that we suffered - no change there then. I was also proposing Immers would have been more useful with his older head and greater physicality.
Lawrence did get better Bluey, but I would have thought Immers would have been more "functional" in those conditions. Even if Slade wanted to (had to????) keep Lawrence on the park, I'd have brought on Immers for Ameobi who faded badly.
That is how my lad and I saw it as well; just did not understand why he did not change it until so late. I have lost count of the number of points dropped at home through "It was just one of those days" - other teams would have scored early and let the opposition come onto them, and then hit them for more eg Brighton on Friday night or held on to comfortable 2 goal cushions. Our home form has all but now cost us a play off spot.
