We have selected our three goalkeepers almost unanimously as [in alphabetical order]

    Jamie Ashdown
    Shaka Hislop
    David James

Now it is time to select DEFENDERS.
We need to select SEVEN. Please list any you would like to see in our hypothetical squad.
If we don't have a clear cut seven then we will have a vote.

List as few or as many as you wan, but remember they must have played for Pompey since 2000. <ok>

My seven would be Primus, De Zeeuw, Campbell, Stefanovic, Johnson, Distin, Hreidarsson.

Special mentions go to Festa, O'Brian, Kabuol, Wilson, Unsworth and Priske (who was never really treated well under Redknapp).

Quick question: Are we classing Matty Taylor as a defender or a midfielder? This needs a definitive answer, cos if hes a defender there is no way he can be left out!

I always classed him as a midfielder since he was always better in the offensve winger role than the defender one.

Good Utility Players such as Matt can be in either category. If it goes to the vote and he doesn't get in as a defender, it's perfectly acceptable to put him forward as a midfielder <ok>

The 'goalkeepers' thread is closed so I'll use this thread in defence of Joshi Kawaguchi. While leaping for that ball that was too high for him he always reminded me of early mornings in late Autumn.

Primus, De Zeeuw, Stefanovic, Campbell, Glen Johnson, Distin and Kaboul.

Thats my seven, but would also like to mention Hayden Foxe, David Unsworth, Belhadj. Also Darren Moore who played in 2000/01 season.

I thought he was a very good shot stopper, but some of his howlers made the nickname 'Calamity James' seem a bit harsh on England's No.1

Yoshi is a green dinosaur, who could save shots easily, with his sticky tongue, swallow the ball and pump it back upfield, probably turning it blue in the process.
    Yoshi Kawaguchi is Japanese.

Anyway. Defenders, Linvoy, Sol, Younes, and that Russian guy who was on loan from Chelsea but I can't remember his name. Alexi something? He used to play just in front of the back four and I think, Arjun used to call him, the Hoover.

Do you mean Alexi Smertin? If he doesn't get in as a defender then he, like Matty Taylor would also qualify as midfield so you could mention him again then if you deem him worthy <ok>

That's him! Smertin. I don't think he ever crossed the halfway line, so I will include him in my list.

Alexey Smertin was a midfielder. The same kind of midfielder as Makelele or Viera. Dont think he ever played as a defender. He's now an elected official in Russian politics.

Sorry Meowth, I was thinking on MAJR's lines aswell and WIKI also confirms his position as a midfielder, so feel free to vote for him on the midfield thread when I put it up. Mind you, as he played for us in our first season in the Premiership, he, as most of the midfield would have spent most of the time in the defensive third of the pitch! :emoticon-0142-happy

OK this one has been open for 24 hours, so going by the names proposed by posters (thanks for the input), we have a position where THREE players are in and the other four will go to the vote.

    Three IN the squad are:

    Sol Campbell
    Younes Kaboul
    Linvoy Primus

I will create a poll on a new thread (tried to add one here by editing but couldn't :emoticon-0120-doh:) and will post a link below.

If you tally up the votes so far you get:

    Primus - 4
    De Zeeuw - 3
    Campbell - 4
    Distin - 3
    Johnson - 3
    Hreidarsson - 1
    Stefanovic - 2
    Kaboul - 3
    Taylor - 1
    Smertin 1

So, if you've decided the players who are definitelty in via votes they've recived so far then it should only be Primus and Campbell who are definitely in.

You're right - I must have missed a post when I was looking through <doh>

C'est la vie. I would imagine those who selected de Zeeuw, Distin and Johnson will vote for them in the poll so there should be no harm done :emoticon-0107-sweat

De Zeeuw was losing last time I checked. Not a big deal really though.
