A really rather good piece. For all you young whipper snappers out there it may seem inconceivable that we were in this situation but it is so recent it is preposterous. http://sport.bt.com/sportfootball/football/david-brown-the-man-who-saved-hull-city-S11363865430592
Loved that great escape team. Some lovely football being played there in that torquay game. The first season I remember properly.
The existence of the club was at stake, but everything connected with HCFC was the worst in our entire history. I'll take a 2-0 defeat in front of a tame sell out crowd at Anfield over a 0-3 home defeat to Cambridge in front of a traumatised 3,000 Boothferry crowd every day of the week.
I do remember that game, was it not Neville Southalls last game or one of his last at the very least? Would of only been seven but still remember it.
No, it was a much more enjoyable experience then. Simple as. Our fans were a good bunch, they all knew what they were talking about, we had a siege mentality, we didn't boo our own team, you could bump into the players on a night out and they were all decent lads who earned the same as us. Yes the football was ****e but so what? I'm no Luddite or anti progression but it was just miles better on a match day.
How did you feel when you got home and turned on the telly to find us alongside the remedial hamlets at the bottom of the 4th division league table ?
I remember following Matt glennon and mike price into 3 tuns after a game, atmosphere was much better at boothferry aswell
Can you remember walking down North Rd on a matchday at 2.45 and the streets more or less empty? Did you never think this club is dieing and wtf are we doing losing to Barnet, Halifax etc? How can anyone get 'nostalgic' about our club being utterly utterly ****ed up to near extinction amongst the dross of the entire country?
I must have been at a different ground to you because as I remember the 4,5,6000 made more noise than the 25000 these days
Yes, i do remember. I also remember people who openly mocked me at school and laughed at my City shirt as they went to watch Wednesday or Leeds proudly declaring they were "City till they die" as we got promoted to the Premier League. I'd take empty streets over those ****s attending matches any day of the week. The thing here is, you clearly put all your importance on on-pitch success and that's really not important to me. And I really don't see what's funny about our owner wishing the fans that kept our club alive were now dead.
