Great job, amazing player! Hope you can bring him to the EPL! £10.6m accepted will be completed once medical has been done.
Just beat me to it - well our other big-money strikers have been... less than value-for-money, let's hope it's third time lucky for us. If we can add Jerome on the cheap as backup to Bobby then we'll be golden.
I'm going to wait till he and his agent have signed and the ink is dry and it's offical. We've had a few occassions when clubs have agreed a fee with us and along comes Harry Redknapp to steal the player away. Don't really need him as Marcello Trotta scored 5 in a 7-0 win against Bolton Reserves tonight
I watched highlights of Twente v Benfica in the CL qualifier and they showed Harry Redknapp in the crowd, they said checking him out. Ruiz scored with a far post header. Not really sure if he can play for two teams in Europe, but I doubt it, knowing UEFA. But he could tell us Twente's weakness.
Looks a very good buy for you guys. From what I've seen he could be the long term replacement for Zamora but better
Can't resist the caveat, so long as it's not at the risk of losing Demps. Tittle tattle also says we're closing on Maynard which raises speculation about AJ. Haven't got any caveats there,
Mail Online has us signing Ruiz, a winger/striker and signing on loan Marseille striker Andre Pierre Gignac, who's 25, a big-salary, big-fee player who never settled properly with his club. This is exciting news, but hopefully it doesn't mean Clint "Mom I just shaved!" Dempsey is on his way to some other club. AJ I'm not as concerned about, but Dempsey is too valuable to let go. Ruiz looks good on the YouTube clip. Cool and two-footed in front of goal. Ruiz is the secodn FC Twente player Fulham have linked with ... Jol must have ties there.
Gignac was being linked with the big boys pre-World Cup, IIRC. Would be a gamble if he's not doing the business at Marseille. I think Ruiz is meant as a partner for Bobby. I really don't think Clint is off.
Does anyone know enough about Dutch football to say where Ruiz usually plays for Twente? From the video it looks like most of his goals came through the middle, with one or two from the right. If he's basically a centre forward, that seems to cast doubt on the Ruiz-in/Dempsey out theory as it leaves us light on the left with Davies out for most of the season. It's possible Ruiz wouldn't be cup-tied for the Europa League. I think there's some weird UEFA rule that states that a player who's played in the Champions League can play for another club in the Europa League and vice versa, but their new club can only field one player who's previously appeared in the other competition. Don't quote me on this, though, I'm not sure I quite understand it.
i think you might be right Fulhamish, found this http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/24032010/58/champions-league-uefa-relax-rules-cup-tied-players.html
Sorry to bring bad news guys, but as FC Twente are still in the Europa League (indeed, they are in our group) I'm pretty sure Ruiz would be cup tied for the Europa League. He'd be fine for the Champion's League, of course...
But he hasn't actually played in the Europa League though, has he? He played in the Champions League qualifier.
Furthermore, Basically, as FC Twente are in the Europa League (rather than the Champions League) now, Ruiz cannot play in the Europa League for anyone else this season.
