With Futacs coming in Heskey wouldn't be needed

Agreed - would also give us the strength in depth ... alternate Bruno, Vardy, Beckford and Futacs ... and with 7 now on the bench...

Love Heskey to bits, but would bring nothing now at his age, not sure what Fuctas brings either to be sure, im completely underwhelmed with either option

You would get rid of Nugent?

I would take Futacs over Heskey now and I think Nigel would. As much as Heskey is a legend and well loved here we need to move forward. Futacs will only improve and could spend years here while Heskey could spend 1 year 2 tops. Futacs would be alot cheaper aswell

^ do you not think that heskey brings the 4-4-2 option better? NP loved the big stevie and fryatt combo. Its like that, but Heskey and Beckford, and even Heskey and Nugent- think of the work ethic there... my word, even just the thought makes me slightly semi-ed

He is 6'5, built like a brick ****house, can run, can head the ball, hold the ball and score with the ball.

I say he can bring a lot - especially given that NP isn't a stranger to putting out someone to bully a defence in the late stages of a game like he did with Howard.

Why would you take Futacs over Heskey now? - what has Futacs done yet? - He struggled to get into a mediocre Pomppey side and has a lot to prove to become a first choice - and you could consider playing Nugent just behind the front two or even have the flexibility to switch to 4-3-3 - Nugent often drifts wide or back and is not an out and out CF in the tradidional mould by any means..

There is no substitute for quality and Heskey definitely has a couple of years left - especially at this level .. he can also give the younger players plenty of useful advice on how to hold up play / bring people in etc ... as long as the wages are reasonable and he stays injury free he would, IMHO, be a huge plus to our potential promotion momentum ..

I genuinely dont think Heskey will come back anyway, why would we want yet another striker. What we really need are a coulpe more defenders, specially if pelts goes, any maybe one more mid, but thats only my personal wish to get Wellens and Gallagher even further down the pecking order lol:1980_boogie_down:

Its clear with Nigel he wants players who will help build the team for a number of years.

Marshall, Drinkwater, Morgan, James, De Laet, Vardy and Futacs can all have a big part to play here for years to come

Heskey would be a bit part player for a season or 2, while yes he will still have a big part to play for now and he would do a job for us but Nigel wants his own men. I was up for the idea of getting Heskey but Futacs looks a very decent prospect and i am more then happy with him signing

Ok, say he only does 1 season and isnt 'building for the future'... say he gets us promoted, is that not the best form of future building, whether he is involved in the next 5 years or not?

It's a good point - also NP is not averse to using an experienced head in his sides .. Oakley and Nobby Solano for instance ...

How many have 62 caps for their country? ... different level all round - respect he would command from those around him unparalleled ... positive influence, role model etc

People who are writing Futacs off clearly havent seen much of him. Since he played us at the KP and gave Mills and Bamba a torrid time i have kept an eye on him and he has impressed. He may not score as many goals as he should but over the season Pompey lost nearly all their attacking players so less chances was getting created for him to score

For the Hungary Under 21's he has got 16 caps and scored 7 goals which is a decent record. He is still young and learning but i think he will prove to be a very good signing for us

I'm glad we've got him ... but as you have said, he looks like one for the future ... don't think anyone on this thread is writing him off ... but weighing up his comparative worth to our promotion cause I would still have Bruno as first choice alongside Beckford or Vardy at this point in time ... if, of course, signing him is really possible.
