  1. I've got a feeling this could be exactly like the Stoke game at home, and the Blackburn game last week. We play circles around them, play nearly all of the creative and attractive football, and end up losing or only getting a point because we don't take our chances, and we can't deal with their set pieces.

I think we can get a result, but we have looked extremely vulnerable against teams who have height. Stoke and Blackburn both pumeled us with their set pieces.

I have left out Tiote, because if he gets 1 more yellow card, he misses 2 games, and i'd rather have him available for our two big home games against Everton and Bolton, two teams who are in the same position as us. I think Guthrie has looked decent when he's come on recently. He played a great ball to Coloccini for that goal vs Spurs at home.

I think we could get a win, but i'm going for a 1-1 draw.

    Birmingham 1-1 Newcastle

And Tiote for a massive 6 pointer like this

  4. Everton are only just above Brum, isn't that a 6 pointer?

We would still have Ireland, Gosling and likely BEN ARFA back by everton. I would risk Tiote as we need to pick up points

Crazy to leave out Tiote IMO, this is bigger than Everton at home, they are never going down this season, plus this is the game in hand, no point having it if you dont win it. Ranger has to start, and although Best hasnt done badly i'd like to see Lover and Ranger start for a change.

Guthrie and Nolan did very well when they played together, but were lucky in some respects as Sunderland and Spurs were missing their anchormen in Cattermole and Huddlestone/Palacios so their jobs were easier and a good midfield will tear them apart if they want to.

Would rather that with Lover coming off at half time :)

  8. Good point Smudger, it is a game in hand and we could go 8 points clear of the drop and 2 pts behind the mackems. Very good point.

I'd say Tiote is more important v Birmingham. Realistically Birmingham will finish below Everton so therefore getting points from Birmingham is a must.

Bit short of options up front but Ranger seems to be the best one.

Would like to see Ranger start upfront and hopefully get his first Premiership goal.

    Harper

    Simpson
    Wilo
    Colo
    Jose

    Barton
    Tiote
    Nolan
    Jonas

    Ranger

If we play like we did against Blackburn and put away our chances, i think we will win. I really think Jose and Jonas will 'cause Carr a load of problems though!

Yep, with injuries the team picks itself apart from who will be the front pairing. Would like to see Ranger but been thinking that since the Liverpool game in December and he still hasn't got a start.

Very true. He didn't have the best of times with us! Seems to be doing a okay job at Birmingham. I remember seeing him in the toon a while back when he was with us. I thought " You baldy midget".

Giving key players breaks when we're not in need of points is one thing but that's a luxury we can't afford at the moment.
