And thanks the 4,000 Villa fans there for a midweek game in London for their support.Wondering if he regrets leaving us and ending up at a little Championship club?

I'm gonna have a field day with my Villa supporting mate at work tomorrow. He's been crying about his clubs away form for ages and I promised him SB will sort that out in a jiffy. His reply? What that blue nose ****? <laugh>

So only a two hour drive then? About the same distance the 4,500+ City fans travelled to back Bruce at the Etihad on a Tuesday night this time last year?

Was that counted by those HDM reporters who describe black and white and red and white armies?

How many went a similar distance to Burnley this season on a Saturday. How many will be going for a Friday night game at Boro when you don't have to get up the next morning for work, kids aren't at school...

I wonder how many tickets we will out of our 3,000 allocation for the league game? It will of course be boosted by quite a few telling people to sit down and shut up because they are spoiling their view of the Man Vitynstsrs they and their kids in their half and half scarves have paid to see.

Why do you take such great pleasure in putting down out support on nearly every thread?

    I honestly don't get it.

You must have realised by now that we're not the best supported club in England and I don't see anyone saying otherwise.

I'm also lost as to whom these rants are aimed at.

Spot on, you've saved me saying the same thing.

What he doesn't get is that teams/managers aren't even that bothered about the number of fans, they just want the best from the ones that do turn up. By his logic Eddie Howe will be deeply unhappy at Premier League Bournemouth because they get smaller gates than some rugby league teams. He'll be looking for that move to League 2 Portsmouth ASAP.

'It at least gave the 5,000 travelling supporters something to cheer, but any hopes of a return to Wembley, in this competition at least, are over for another season.'

As it turns out our official website was in on the lie too.

I think it's because we do have a number of posters who keep coming up with this 'We are massive' notion, and it's a bit embarrassing, cos our support is genuinely ****!

Not putting down those fans who, spend their time and money. Just some of the starry eyed dreamers who belittle other teams, calling many of them little clubs, and their support. Our away support is not great considering the size of the city and surrounding areas.
Boro sold out their 3,000 tickets for the trip to West Ham in less than an hour for example, a longer journey to London than for us. About the same as Hull to the pleasant place to spend a weekend, Bournemouth for example.

Well, the accounts show our home gates were in fact way below those originally claimed, so,who knows?

Anyway, obviously glory hunters who didn't travel similar distances to league games on a Saturday.
Wonder how many were there with their kids tomgawp at the stars in sky blue ?

Which posters? I can't say I've ever got that impression from this board.

Our away support is distinctly average and probably about par for the size and history of the club, certainly nothing special but capable of having some good days.

Can't remember off the top of my head, but it's been said before. probably the same people who were convinced we needed to extend the stadium to 35 or even 40,000. Pipe dream.

I completely agree with the stadium expansion, people let the ticket sales during one PL season go to their head, anyone that still thinks an extension is necessary needs their head checking.

Bournemouth could only get larger gates if they played at another stadium. However, the percentage of fans who go away with them is larger than ours. How many do you think they would get for Man U, Liverpool, Srsenal etc if they had a bigger stadium?
The only RL teams which gets more is FC, very occasionally, Wigan now and again and the best supported one, who do regularly, Leeds Rhinos. The rugby club which beats them regularly forvattendances is the biggest, best supported one, Leicester Tigers.

Actually Wigan do regularly, as do Warrington, Leeds and St Helens.

Just so you know, its actually 4/12 RL and 8/12 RU clubs that average more than Bournemouth.

Those numbers get even higher if you look at any season other than their last PL one. Plus you need to consider that 25% of Bournemouth's attendances are away fans.

<laugh> Saying Bournemouth need a ground extension is the exact same as when people claimed we needed one after a single PL season.

With a population of 180,000+ there's little doubt that, given a team in football's top flight, and a bigger stadium, they would have a bigger support than nearly every RL team.
