Not a regular poster, but a regular reader (even for a few years on BBC 606). Found this on Sunderland's plans to break our injury curse this season. Sounds like a good idea and I'm pleased the club are looking within on this one and not just saying it was bad luck last time round. Bruce sez....... "From a personal perspective, it would be nice to spend a little less time discussing injuries this season than last. Bruce will certainly hope for better fortune and the club have invested heavily in a new system which links up heart-rate monitors and GPS systems for every player in every training session, allowing their fitness levels to be monitored with precision. Sunderland's fitness coaches will now know when individual players are exercising to maximum effect, when they are fatigued and at risk of injury and the technology has been deployed to allow Bruce to tailor training in the last days before matches. It can do nothing to prevent broken legs, of course, but the club is constantly learning and evolving from their experiences. "Everything that's out there, we've embraced and learned from, in the hope of prevention of injury," Bruce said. "That's key for us after what happened last year. We've radically overhauled things and we hope it does the trick. We need a bit of luck as well. Last year, we had four or five trauma injuries and this stuff can't do anything about that, but we've tried to eradicate the other side. Now we can monitor and gauge and understand where people's bodies are. We've done everything we possibly can to improve."
