Five months later, Bruce was out of a job as Sunderland faced relegation from the Premier League. âHow could I deny him a move to Liverpool? I couldnâtâ Steve Bruce And ahead of todayâs game, the Hull boss said: âOne of the reasons I think I got the sack was losing people like Jordan â my best players. But how could I deny him a move to Liverpool? I couldnât. âIâm delighted heâs doing well â I always knew he would.â
constantly playing people out of position didnt help either. i would point to the losses of bent, gyan and wellbeck more. but it was down to bruce to replace them not get bentdner in as a last minute replacement
Exactly fella, He played Jorden on the right wing for christ sake. Jordan is and always had box to box CM written all over him.
I couldn't deny him a movie to Liverpool? Yes you ****ing could you bellend! You were his manager, he was under contract, he was playing for his boyhood club if you had anything about you could have talked him into seeing out the season at least for duck sake!
It wasn't. it was away to brighton in the league cup, we got beat one nil. Brighton and Hove Albion 1 Sunderland 0 (aet): match report Read a full match report of the Carling Cup game between Brighton and Hove Albion and Sunderland Amex Stadium on Tuesday Aug 23 2011. At the Amex Stadium this will, indeed, do nicely. Sunderland may have flashed the cash this summer but it wasn’t enough to stop a vibrant, feel-good Brighton who deservedly sent the Premier League club crashing out of the Carling Cup in the second-round and hurtling towards what their manager Steve Bruce admitted was a “storm”. Clouds are gathering. Even in August. For Bruce this was a shocking result, a shocking performance. He will have to deal with a growing sense of anger from Sunderland supporters having brought in nine new players and then fielded a team without a recognized striker. That he ended this contest with four on the pitch will only add to that sense of bewilderment. A summer of optimism has quickly turned dour. A striker did score but it was Brighton’s own new arrival Craig Mackail-Smith who was rewarded for a relentless performance with an extra-time goal, a header, finely crafted in yet another slick move from Gus Poyet’s side. Having struggled for so many years, the newly-promoted Championship side are now richly in credit. It has been well-earned in their brand-new home which is already becoming a south-coast fortress. Not that Bruce fielded a weakened side. He knew this is a competition he could do well in – perhaps needed to do well in – and he also had to dispel the crushing disappointment of the derby defeat to Newcastle United. On Tuesday night it was blue and white stripes, not black and white, but the result was the same. The “margins”, as both Bruce and Poyet stated, are “fine” but Sunderland are on the back-foot with their manager admitting: “We have got to get ready to ride the storm.” That’s starts with the next Premier League match, away to Swansea. “What usually sorts out a Premier League team from the rest is the ability to finish and unfortunately we got punished for it. It’s a concern at the moment,” he added. Chances were traded with Sunderland shading the first-half. But, in saying that, they did not dominate. Indeed Mackail-Smith probably wasted the best chance, scooping over after a defensive mix-up, although Stephane Sessegnon, twice, and Seb Larsson went close. After the interval, however, and it was certainly Brighton in the ascendancy as Ashley Barnes dallied when clear on goal and Mackail-Smith’s shot cannoned off a post after he also breached the Sunderland defence and beat the nervy debutant goalkeeper Kieran Westwood. Bruce’s concern grew and then there was a twist of controversy when Inigo Calderon exchanged passes and hared into the area only to fall at Westwood’s challenge. Penalty? No, the defender was harshly booked for diving. Still chances went back and forth but no breakthrough came until the tricky Craig Noone sent Alan Navarro down the right and his clipped cross was headed back across goal, and into the net, by Mackail-Smith. At the final whistle, Bruce puffed out his cheeks and adjusted his tie. It suddenly feels like a long season for Sunderland. “We like to talk about who is under pressure but he deserves to stay all season no matter what happens,” Poyet said. Time will tell. Match details Brighton (4-2-3-1): Ankergren; Calderon, Greer (Vincelot h-t, Taricco 77), Dunk, Painter; Navarro, Bridcutt; Barnes, Harley (LuaLua 88), Noone; Mackail-Smith. he did well in transfer market and its a shame he let them all go. when you look at the players he signed theres some real quality ther. we had the likes of cana, gyan, bent, wellbeck, migg and sess. its a real pity he didnt have a clue how to motivate or deploy them to get the most out tof them. since hye left i have lost all respect for him, he really needs to learn its not cos hes a geordie its cos he was ****. a handfull of wins in a calender year, no idea how to change a game and piss poor tactics were the death of him
I don't class Bendtner as he was a plug the gap loan signing. The other two were signed on long contract as long term replacements for me like. Was about the time he completely lost the plot. He'd done well till then.
£9m for Wickham and thinking Bendtner on loan would replace selling Judas. I wouldn't have given him a penny more if I were Short after that. DoF? Not on my watch he wouldn't.
Would that be the 2-1 defeat on the 6 May 2012 where Ji Dong-Won led the line? Or the 18th November 2012 where we won 3-1 when Fletcher led the line?
