on sky sports, bruce believes the side's current slump is down to the defence.... he talks about the turner/ bramble combo, and how we lost once in eight games, yes he does have a valid point, but although we have conceded 24 goals in ten games, we have only scored 9. so news for you steve, the lads at the back have been mixed and matched, and never look comfortable or settled, they try but we are lacking severly there, where-as up front, and midfield we are supposed to be fairly talented, 9 goals in ten games is not good enough, even another 4-5 goals in them ten games, and we wouldn't even be talking about this. the points tally would be much different, so don't just blame the defence, they are being over-run due to the lack of help else-where, and an inability for the forwards to score. sort the strikers out for sat, and wigan will not be able to cope...
He does have a point mate if we don't concede then we won't get beat. Not sure why he has come out and said this it seems like every week he is engaging mouth before brain and putting down a section of the team, the fans or worse still saying the opposition are great and he admires them for what they have done. That sort of talk will not help the spirit at the club, he is a fairly honest straight talking bloke which is fine by me but I still think he needs to think before speaking especially to journos. As for Saturday I'm with you get the strikers sorted put 3 strikers on there, Gyan on his own is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard for us works fine for Ghana but not week in week out in PL. The defence has suffered lately due to the lack of protection from the CM, I'm all for getting forward and attacking teams but you've got to have a holding CM player just in case. Take a look at the majority of goals we have conceded over this dodgy run and you'll see they came from breakaways after we had the ball even from our own corners and free-kicks.
i agree with what he's saying, but for too long we have had a makeshift defence, and you know your in **** when you have to play anton anywhere. yes the back four have been poor, but need help, and what better help, than the forwards doing their job. bruce is spot on about turner/bramble, but it wasn't to be, i'm not actually having a go at bruce about this, but think it's unfair of him to pinpoint the defence only. **** bardo has been player of the season, and just as well.
