Bruce is actively putting himself in the shop window for another job. He is going to the media to try and salvage his 'reputation' by blaming Sunderland fans for wanting him sacked because he is a 'geordie' (Failing to ever mention that we built a statue of a geordie and placed it right outside of our stadium). By going to the media Bruce is planting seeds in the minds of the chairmen who are considering sacking their current manager. If Bruce was such a brilliant manager, he would let his 15 year history of being a manager do the talking instead of feeling the need to go public in the media. It speaks volumes for his 'acheivements' as a manager. I wonder if Bruce will feel any sympathy for the manager that will eventually be sacked to make way for his appointment?
What an unemployed manager putting himself in the shop window and blaming others for his latest sacking, who would have thought !!! Look guys it's time to move on Bruce did a job here, and to be honest got us a top 10 finish. We were all pretty pleased with his EARLY summer signings but unfortunately it didn't work out for him. He has since been replaced and we all know how well it turned out for us.
I've moved on mate... I'm so happy with the structure of our club today that I can honestly say I've never been any happier. However, if Bruce keeps on going public suggesting that he was sacked by Sunderland because the fans didn't want a 'geordie' at the club, the fans of Sunderland will have their say on public forums too. Look at the statue outside of the stadium Steve... Clearly some other manager at some other club will be sacked before too long and I hope Bruce gets the job... He is a passionate bloke and loves his football, he also assembled a team of very good footballers and I've never disputed that... Perhaps Bruce ought to think about taking a job in a lower league and prove himself instead of going public and blaming everybody but himself in order to feed his ego that appears to be unable to take a drop back to championship or league 1 level. I will be very interested to see how Bruce performs in his next position, and the sooner the better... I would have some respect for Bruce if he took it on the chin by taking a job in a lower league instead of wingeing in the media about how everybody else is at fault for his sacking at Sunderland. The top and bottom of it is, Bruce blew his big chance. As it stands today, Bruce must earn that big chance once again via the proper channels as opposed to trying to suggest that the reason Sunderland only managed to win 2 games at home in 11 months was because the fans didn't want a 'geordie' as the manager.
I've moved on big time. Unfortunately Bruce hasn't and wherever he keeps blaming the fans of this great club for his inability to manage above the bottom 4 or 5 of EPL and for his poor tactics, man management and that last awful year, I'll come back and tell him to piss off.
I never understood his tactics, unless you make the working assumption that he simply doesn't have any, and our record from the end of Jan 2011 was pitiful. He's probably bitching about the 5-1 at the SDA causing our resentment, but (a) that happened on his watch and (b) why the **** wouldn't we be pissed off?
I thought he spoke well and its hard for him to move on when he is invited onto talk shows to talk about it. What he said was our fans are fantastic and have every right to give their opinion, it was just the personal abuse he disliked, I agree with him.
Personal abuse is something that all managers will face at all clubs at some point in their career's.... It's a big boys game... It was only 25 years ago when we had running riots between opposing fans every other weekend in English football. The sentiment of most fans has significantly evolved since those dark days. Perhaps Bruce is suggesting that it's just a Sunderland fan thing and our fans are the only fans that give abuse to a failing manager? If Bruce had managed to win more than 2 games in 11 months at home it is unlikely he would have recieved the abuse he did. Bruce ought to drop the subject as we only react to his comments about us. These days, we have no other reason to mention his name. At the end of the day, if Bruce had succeeded he would have been lauded whether he was a 'geordie' or not. It was obvious that Bruce wasn't taking our club anywhere other than towards a relegation battle and after 2.5 years, that just isn't good enough for a club the size of Sunderland taking into consideration the number of players that had come and gone during that period of time. Goodluck to him, I hope he has another job sooner rather than later.
For the bulk of his time he was given fantastic support here Syd, even when it was all going tits up and we were humiliated up the road. Only when he actually started having a pop at us, coupled with one of the worst 11 months of home form in history (given the money and backing he had received) did it turn. I could add that he was a key antagonists to that abuse by his actions and comments.
Random facts.......one for the statto's to check out... The Liverpool game was Sunderlands 5000th competitve match? When they first joined the league they only lost one game in 5 or maybe 6 seasons at home?
I can only ad what I said at the time, personal abuse is wrong in my mind, always has been and always will be. Whatever he reason or excuse does not excuse it in my view, just an honest opinion.
He signed some very good players for us though, i believe Mclean is the new Gareth bale, and he better get into the Eire squad now or they will regret it. And Sess of course, O shea (back to his Man u best) Brown, Vaughn, and Mig.
And do you include Bruces personal attacks on us for being too demanding? After 4 decades of ****e? Was he for real? It works both ways Syd. The fans, in the main, stuck with him even when we all knew it was buggered. Even when he knew too. Then it suddenly became our fault, Bents, Gyans and anyone else he could think of but never his. Ask yourself why wolves would rather risk relegation under a total novice, rather than employ Mr Excuses. Oh and he was handsomely rewarded for that failure as well let's not forget.
I donts see his opinion, right or wrong as personal insults. Wolves, who knows Whats his pay off got to do with it.
I took some of his comments as insulting, he was basically saying that I as a Sunderland fan did not have the intelligence to understand what was happening at the club because of my unreasonable expectations and I was also a bigot because I was judging him on his origins and not his actions. I do not agree with giving anyone personal abuse and certainly did not partake in any at a match, if that stick he got did however tip Ellis over into giving him the sack then I am sorry but I would rather have the multi millionair Steve Bruce get a little upset than see my beloved Sunderland relegated and back where we started in the **** again. As I have said in another thread Steve Bruce did great things for this club and I am thankful to him but he needs to take responsibility for how it ended instead of blaming the fans........was nothing to do with him being a Geordie, it was all about results or the lack of them. Anyway, thats my piece said and I doubt I will ever comment on a Steve Bruce thread again as for me that chapter is closed and we move on.
Nout to do with him being a Jawdee. He was sacked because of bad management, bad results and a bit of bad luck. Roy Keane done a job for us, took us out of the fizzy pop league, reached his level, and was sacked. Steve Bruce done a job for us, established us in mid-table, reached his level, and was sacked. That said, Brucie did sign some of the best players I've seen play in the red & white shirt. We also witnessed some brilliant football and brilliant results under his watch, and for that, I will always be grateful.
