Bruce knows his defence for Liverpool gameby Mark Douglas, Evening Chronicle

ShareAdd a commentRecommend STEVE Bruce has already picked his back four for the opening-day trip to Anfield.

However, he knows from harsh experience he can take nothing for granted as the big Premier League kick-off looms ever larger on the horizon.

Wes Brown will make his Sunderland bow at Kilmarnock tomorrow night, giving him the opportunity to stake his claim in a department which has a few question marks surrounding it.

Titus Bramble was sent off in the final game of the German tour at Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday, while Michael Turner is also battling to be back up to speed following a long absence last season.

Others have staked their claims too – with Anton Ferdinand playing twice out in Germany and classy young centre-back Louis Laing doing his chances no harm with smart performances too.

Kieran Richardson, Phil Bardsley and John O’Shea are also in the frame.

I think it's funny using the name Turner in the same sentance as "speed".

What a way to waste my 1000th post! I hope hoping for something more..................ooooomph.!

See you never wasted it trying to guess the defence Bobby, it's anyone's guess so far.

Congrats by the way, took me ages to get there, then i can't even remember most of the rest.

It looks like O'Shea will miss the Kilmarnock game, anyone know when he's due to be fit again? Is it just a precaution?

I've just realised, 100 more posts to 2,000!

Strange article this one, Bardsley also in the frame, in the ****ing frame, what's that meant to mean? Surely there is no doubting he is more than in the frame, but a first choice.

Steve Bruce will hand debuts to Keiren Westwood and Wes Brown against Kilmarnock tomorrow night.
Brown, the defender, and goalkeeper Westwood have both recovered from injuries and have trained successfully of late.
The pair are both summer signings, with Brown having arrived from Manchester United while Westwood signed as a free agent after his contract with Npower Championship club Coventry City expired.
Both took part in the club's training camp in Germany but neither featured in the three friendlies played as part of the tour.
Meanwhile striker Asamoah Gyan will also feature north of the border tomorrow after being given extra time to work on his fitness following a late return to pre-season training.
Gyan finished as Sunderland's top scorer last season, netting 11 goals.
Boss Bruce is still without John O'Shea, Fraizer Campbell, David Meyler and Craig Gordon as the pre-season programme continues.

Bardo Brown Bramble Ricco

Turner not yet 100% fit, Oshea not 100% fit so the above would make sense as long as Brown comes through his first game ok. No point in playing people until they are 100% and we still don't have a left footed LB apart from Ricco.

We should maybe go for

Angeleri Nos Killgalon McCartney

Pray for a miricle that they keep a clean sheet then we can sell them all.

Aye, let's bring back The Noz.

Let's see him go on one of his amazing, mazy, dribbling runs out of defense into the middle like some latter day cross between George Best & Tony Adams.

More heart in mouth than any ****ing roller coaster I've ever been on I can tell ya.

The Noz. ****ing legend on Wearside!
