Phil Brown has been appointed as First Team Manager at Barrow AFC on a deal until the end of the 2021/22 season.
League Two. They're currently embroiled in a battle for the final relegation spot. Six points off at the moment, with Colchester playing Forest Green tonight they'll be hoping it sticks to form.
So the same league as scunny? I thought barrow were a non league club lol I don’t follow lower league stuff
They came up the season before last with Harrogate I think. They're a tiny club, anything above 23rd is a very good outcome for them.
To be fair, you could swap any of the bottom eight League Two clubs and top ten National League clubs and they'd be competitive, the lines have really blurred recently. Looks like Stockport have walked the league, hoping Halifax will come up with them.
Brownie's new partner has just had a newborn, probably wants to get as far away as he can to get a night sleep.
Barrow used to be a league club until the early 70s - I remember them getting made non league and Hereford took their place - think it was by a vote , took them about 50 years to regain their place
Don't laugh but I used to go to Barrow for holidays when I was little. We had relatives there so it was a cheap option.
Come on Rover, that's unfair. It was close to child abuse taking a child to Barrow for holidays. I had forgotten that Barrow were indeed a league club many years ago. Charon's post reminded me of when I was a kid (50+ years ago) collecting those coin / medal things for each football club and having one for Barrow.
similar thing happened to Workington Town in the seventies - they got voted out as well - Southport were the last team to lose their place on votes in the late 70s when the system for relegation / promotion to the league changed
I’d have guessed promotion/relegation started well into the 80s. I always remember Crewe regularly (they may have just been down the bottom) having to apply to retain their place
