Selected highlights, courtesy of Theo's Twitter feed... Browny impressed by #hcafc last night, thought we should've won first half and thinks NB doing a great job. Bullard "bored very quickly when injured", "went out and had a drink", "took other players with him" Looks a bad signing because injured quickly and behaviour followed. Altidore and JVoH "sub standard for the premier league" King's pro-zone stays incredible, up with Cousin who "couldn't run" and Geo who'd only run when it was sunny. By November, King's stats down from 1500m per match to 700m. Had no idea man city incident would attract media attention it did. PB: asked to sanction deal for Turner for £8m cash, asked for a defender too, by Duffen. Sanctioned, believed 10.5m deal. Would never have sanctioned deal if knew. Bartlett and Duffen both sold him. "it was a bad deal, full stop, end of". Benitez offered £1m & Maxi Rodriguez and a young lad. PB talked him away from Liverpool because wasn't good enough ball player. Turner on standby list for England 3 times. Wayne brown played second half of play-off final with pulled calf. Players hit wall second half, "if it'd gone to extra time, we had no chance". Met Paul Duffen 15 mins after Cardiff away in 2006/07. Duffen had watched 17 games sussing club out. Met Duffen 2 weeks later, gave him list of players wanted and believed we could go up. Duffen's problem was "getting into he'd with sharks (agents)". Duffen should've stuck with the football people in the club. Thinks NB knows we need a striker but has no-one backing him up (financially). Ian Ashbee's achievements unbelievable and should be recognised. Cairney grounded lad, apart from when he asked for big contract. TC on £300 a week, his agent telling him he could get him £20k! Offered tranmere job this week. Was saying "no" but tranmere appointed Moore while he was thinking. When went to Derby, board told him to get to 60 points so they could take administration penalty and write off debt. Team spirit and work rate in 07/08 phenomenal. Deano deserves credit for developing FC. Spitgate - For some reason the FA defended Arsenal. PB: I witnessed it with my own eyes. PB: Stuart Atwell a disgrace last night Took Manucho on basis, if he's good enough for #mufc he's good enough for #hcafc Never connected with Derby fans, loved hull from the start. Knew hull's reputation but on arrival, thought it was lovely. FC didn't want to come because he only knew it was no. 2 worst place in UK. PB told him he was wrong. PB: inner London is a ****hole, hull isn't. Thanks to Theo for the Twitter feed, some interesting stuff and the effort is much appreciated.
For once a view from the inside. It shows to some extent the frustrations behind management. Derby comments are very interesting and possibly shed some light on the mind set of clubs like Portsmouth, bring in class players get to safety and put the club into Administration. I recall a press conference, where Duffen said " Phil gives me a list and I do the business, but it's up to me to say if they come or not" I felt at that time that PB was a puppet manager. Bullard did just what the rumours said. I actually think that Phil Brown has a romantic memory of the club in the way he talks about it. Could we have stayed up with a different owner and chair? Just thinking about Turner, What a waste.
Not surprised about any of that, to be honest. Shame nobody asked him how far the road he went with the Sunderland job, that would have been an interesting answer!
Altidore was sub-standard, i agree with that. JVOH was good enough for me but wasn't helped with tactics and some of the players around him.
Most of what was said is included above, but if you want the full version, you can look at @hullcitylive on Twitter.
Was at the reserves match last night and thankfully missed the event. Had enough of Brown and his drivel. The stuff i want him to come out with and confirm he will never do. Heard it all before what he comes out with nowadays. Dish the dirt and the truth if you dare Brown.!!!!
I certainly haven't heard all of this before. Maxi Rodriguez? ****ing hell imagine that. I thought Altidore and JVoH were good for us; we scored goals that year but the problem was that we always conceded more! I find it hard not to like the guy, his comments about Man City are spot on, it wasn't a big deal at the time and then once the media made a big thing of it suddenly it was this awful decision that was going to derail our season. Unfortunately I think he's probably about right regarding Barmby not bringing players in.
Ian from the OSC has also put up details of the Q & A's for anyone who's interested... https://twitter.com/#!/IanGarmston
I went. He's got a way with words and he knew how to say things. In alot of it they said sounded dubious and sometimes quite ridiculous. For example, the stories about him rejecting the Tranmere job, and the reasons why he left Preston and about the sale of Turner to Liverpool leading to us bringing in Maxi Rodriguez as a replacement. I think his aim was to get all City fans back onside with him. They were very talkative all night and they were good enough to answer all questions and held nothing back. They answered people's questions with a smile on their faces, even when they were quite probing, ie when they were about incidents with Turner, Bullard & Marlon King and the infamous Man City half time and the Spittlegate incidents. They had some great stories about their time here and the craic was good. Laurie Dudfield was there also, collecting his honourary achievement award from the Cott Branch of the OSC. He's changed alot since i last saw him in action. His hairs all gone for starters. All in all it was a good night and the amount of people was great. They'd got a full coach load from Hornsea and Withernsea to add to the groups form Bev, Cott, and Skidby. .
The important thing is the here and now,so to hear Phil say that Barmby wants a striker, but has no financial back up is worrying. Then again,is that just his opinion/feeling ? I would like to know how he would know this. Unless he still has contacts with the club.
I think OLM or PT has already retty much confirmed that the reason we didn't go for Sharp was financial. My impression is that we don't want to spend to go up. I'm not sure whether that's sensible management or overly-optimistic about keeping players in the summer.
Surpised no one asked about Ghilas' contract, he was either on a deal which went up after x games or a agent has sold us a piece of crap for £2.5m (did we really pay that?)
I did think about asking that but only this morning! I was going to ask who he thought were his best and worst signings but ran out of time. He did refer to Paul McShane as a "top Championship defender" at one point. I forgot that when I wrote it up.
