I think he could be sensational for us this year. I really think that if he can stay fit, he will improve us massively. I know many people doubt him on here, but let me ask, what bad player stays at Manchester united for 12 years? The guy has champions league, premier league, fa cup, league cup, community shield, super cup medals, what bad player has them? I think his doubters might be slightly embarrassed this year (they will hope so too) brown will be class for us, something we have lacked for years.
I'm torn to be honest, like you I think he could be excellent, tons of experience and a steadying influence on the defence, but just can't seem to shake off that small feeling that something may go wrong for him. Don't know what it is or even explain it, but it's still there.
John I watched him at hibs, first time and I was amazed, a class and more above the rest and keep him fit and we will love him.
... and 23 caps for England. Keep him and O'shea fit and they will make an incredible difference. Off the subject, but I think Ferdinand might surprise us alongside these two!!
Yeah you can tell class when you see it mate. Just looked composed and steady at all times. I don't see why people think Ferdinand is going to suddenly be good this year? You can't change someone that has no footballing brain.
I agree - just think what everyone was saying about Titus Bramble this time last year. Our defence can only be stronger with Brown and oShea in it. Think how many times we lost from a winning position because of lack of concentration in defence. The experience of these two must help those along side them.
Unbelievable natural talent, better than O'Shea in that respect. Fingers crossed he rediscovers his best form.
There is no doubting Brown's ability, he is a quality defender with a wealth of experience. My only reservation about signing him, was his ability to stay fit through a long hard season. I hope he proves me wrong........
He's a decent player really. The only thing which made me consider him a **** signing is that he's very injury prone and already quite old (almost 32). Signings are usually for more than just one season, so you gotta look at the bigger picture, and in that respect, I'd be surprised if you get more than one or two seasons out of him, and it may be a lot less than that if things don't go to plan. Bruce just had a lot of injury problems last year, so I don't know why he's bought yet another injury-prone player to rely on. Surely it would have been worth investing in a quality centre back who didn't have injury troubles and who possibly had some re-sale value in him. It seems like he'll be off before he's even had a chance to settle in and build some team spirit over a few seasons But hey, it might work out fine.
me too. Was very impressed. Seems he won literally every header in the box too. If he can keep his fitness, very confident he can become an invaluable player in our team.
We got rid of Mensah who was the ultimate crock although a quality player. Brown isn't as injury prone as people think, he just couldn't get past Vidic and Ferdinand in the Man Utd team. I reckon we can get 3 years out of him but even if we get just 2 years then if he continues his pre season form then I'll be happy with that. All round from what I've heard he sounds like a top, top signing!
he never once took his eye off the ball, total focus. He wanted the ball from mig and played it out, accross the back 4 and back, up to the wing and back until an opening.
Wheeeyy he might. I find the length of the contract the most bonkers thing of all though. What was it? 4 or 5 years or something? He's 32 in 2 months time.
My mate said almost verbatum that Syd, He was none-plussed by the signing, like myself, but said he was absolutely collossal and wanted to use the ball every time. I hope this is the way he turns out for us, i'm certainly encouraged by what i'm hearing.
2 words mate............................SOL CAMPBELL How old was he when you took him on, how long did he spend on the pitch and how much did he cost? Browns early 30's so if we get 2/3 years out of him, no doubt you lot will take him off out hands, after all you've got form signing old knackered defenders
If you actually listen to some man u fans he wasn't injured that much just had Ferdinand and vidic in front of him. Also in his last season he fell out with saf which can only end one way.
Sol is a prime example of doing it right imo. We signed him on a one year contract, he was ****, so it never went beyond that. It was quite well done, especially as Sol played quite well at Arsenal just before he joined us. We could have been forgiven for thinking that he'd be a good signing when we first got him... Thankfully, someone at the club stayed very cautious, and that caution paid off. Imagine if we'd signed the ****er for 4 years, or even 2!
Aye, you did everything right......................................... except signing him, apart from that it was nearly perfect.
The thing that gets me is when people say him and John are 'Man Utd rejects'. Just because they aren't the first names on the sheet.. The CB pairing at Utd is arguably the best in the world. But because Brown isn't better than Vidic he's a reject? Psssh! People also forget that because Man Utd do so well in all competitions, John O'Shea especially ends up making a full seasons worth of appearances. Brown will be immense in my eyes. Fergie always rated him highly. And I think the thing with Anton is that he's possibly lacked someone with the experience and coolness/confidence around him that hopefully the Man Utd boys will bring.
