It is really hard to tell mate. I've not seen any clues as to the ticket prices as yet, but I'd have though that availability would not be a problem, especially if we don't start the season very well. It will be easier to judge nearer the time, would that effect your flight prices?
Sounds good Roller.....the only sticking point could be tickets.....however I'm sure Inky could convince his cousin to do the honours as last time!!!!! Will need to see if Sky bugger about with the fixture before booking flights etc, but will do upmost to be there..... As for footy match....Nutso what are you on......and where would the over 50's fit into this......sounds far to energetic....
So it would appear that I'd definitely be able buy tickets for both games? Would I be able to buy tickets online and where would you suggest for a seating location? From previous experience the closer to departure date the flight ticket prices increase, as availabilty decreases. For Aeroplan travel points or Air Miles tickets there is generally only a limited number of seats available on each flight. Would this be a likely pre-Sat game meet up venue? please log in to view this image or perhaps....... please log in to view this image
I'd be surprised if you couldn't but ticket for both. If we start the season like we did last time in the Championship there maybe a problem for the Saturday, but I'd be surprised. I've sat/stood in all areas of the ground, I'm really not bothered all be it as I'm over 6 foot I do try for a back row seat so that I can stand. If you are the same, the back of the Ellerslie Road stand is the least attractive option, the enlarged TV gantry restricts visibility. When the Irish were over we met at the Crown and Sceptre without too much difficulty. I'm hoping for more people this time and that may not be practical. There is more space in the garden, but who can tell what the weather will do (Mortlake what do you say?) The Coningham has more space and worse beer. I asked a stalwart from another forum and he said to check out The Bull in Westfields. Anyone been there?
Kilburn, I will have 3/4 memberships and I expect to only use two for the Birmingham game and 1 for the Brighton game. In the Championship, a membership will guarantee you tickets unless we are top of the table near the end of the season. I used to sit in the Lower Loft. A few of the lads and lassies from here still do and I would recommend it. Good atmosphere, good view (no obstructions etc). The only bad thing is that you are quite low and the view of the school end goal is not the best. If you like, I can buy you tickets for both games with us and you can sort me out when you get over. We have kids in our group and you need to have kids in the group to get seats in the lower loft. It would be great to have you over. Let me know what you think and go for it, you only live once.
Hi Finglas, Thanks very much for your kind offer of possibly securing match tickets for me if I can make the trip - my dad (born 1916) and his dad used to go most of the R's home games together in the pre-WW2 era. Living in Hampshire, dad turned me into a true R during the 1966-67 promotion winning/league cup winning season when we went to a few games together, in particular I remember my first game and of course first glimpse of Rod.....neeeeeee at Bournemouth. Before I came to Canada in 1976 dad and I went up to Loftus Road for a few games (still have the match programmes somewhere). My older brother had absolutely no interest, so it was always just dad and I. I turn 60 this year, so it would be a great trip for me, other than the expense - timing perhaps not the best as school will have just started and my wife travels on business a fair bit (I have 5 daughters aged 12 -20, 2 in university, 3 still at home in high school). Finances are also a bit tight these days - should be retired, but after that 2008 financial meltdown certainly no freedom 55 for me, and of course my wife thinks I'm crazy going off to London to meet a bunch of imaginary internet friends! For accommodations I would have to re-establish contact with my former school chum architect in London (he's a Spurs fan). I could use Aeroplan points for a return flight - 60,000 points, but I only have 15,000 pts available, so would have a borrow 45,000 pts from my wife, who of course said - "you're not using my points to go to London to watch a couple of football games"! For a "free" ticket, you still pay about $700 in add-ons (fuel surcharge + a whole list of other levies). Anyway I'll keep you posted, if a trip for me develops.
