I'm not sure about this, I noticed it on the BBC site this morning and thought it sounded a bit ambitious, it wasn't there for long however as it was quickly changed to quote him as saying we could get into the top 6 if we beat Arsenal. The BBC may well have misquoted him and others have picked up no it before they changed it
Yeah, four is way too big. Spurs spent and spent and took years of building. There's no way that's happening. Top six is a BIG ask too. We're on a good run at the moment, but we had an iffy one before and I think we'll have a season like that. Bursts. We'll end up higher than last year, but not that much higher. No more than eight, I think.
To be fair, I think the top 6 comment was just about breaking into it this weekend, I don't think he's anticipating staying there
Well, thinking about it... Man U, Man City, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal will finish above us. Then thinking about the others, I'm not sure I could see us finishing above Everton either... normally, I'd include Newcastle with them, but they're having an off year. Still we would have to finish above Everton or Spurs to get sixth and I'm not sure about that. I have to think eighth would be the very highest, but you never know. The point of football is to be able to dream of a fantasy year... west brom fans have to be thinking they can cling in there and, forgetting the result against us, they don't look like a team that could be a surprise package for some form of Europe. I can't help but think our best chance of europe is the cup. If we were to get past Middlesborough, and they're a good team, then we'd be in the Semis, potentially up against Chelsea, who Benitez will want to make a mark with, or Arsenal who may be feeling pressure to make the most of the cups. It would be very tough, and we'd prob have to beat both of them to win it. We've shown we can do it (or certainly push them), but cups are always different.
Britton understands how good the team is better than most fans. Swans can beat any team in this league and can finish top 3-6.
Surely every team should be aiming to win the league - without ambition life falls into mediocrity. What player would want to sign for a club who's line to tempt them is "our goal is to finish top 10". The reality is that we probably won't win the league (just like that Blackburn team who won it) but surely you must strive for it. You don't know what is possible until you go for it. Publicly the players won't want to say they feel we are on with a chance of top 4 this season, but I bet in training it's been mentioned.
what are the odds on top 4? Still unrealistic enough in the bookies eyes to be good odds I'm sure. A feel a £20 burning a hole in my pocket...
Thanks SA9. Just put a tenner on at 125-1. So I'm looking forward to £1,250 at end of season. Tempted to add another £90 to make it £12,500. These are excellent odds. We might not make it but I think we have a much better than 125-1 chance. Worth risking a small amount for such a good return. WBA are only 25-1. and are only 3 points ahead of us. I think we will finish above them. And Liverpool are only 13-2. Luckily for us, the bookies are still underestimating us. You can even get 20-1 on us finish top 6. Only 11-10 to finish top 10. We are 1-40 to avoid relegation. So the bookies think we are very safe indeed. And we are.
Bookies have us as 28-1 to get relegated and 1-40 to avoid relegation. They have us as 20-1 to finish top 6. In other words, the bookies odds show that there is more chance of us finishing top 6 than getting relegated. So let's stop all this relegation talk nonsense. Yes, we need 40 points, but so do Man U. So Man U should be safe from relegation pretty soon. Then they can relax and just play for fun. We are 120-1 to finish top 4. If we beat Norwich those odds will drop to around 25-1. Then we'll be more likely to be in Champions League than be relegated.
It's a reasonable comment but not one that I agree with. I cannot believe most players do actually say to themselves "I think I will signed the dotted line believing we have a chance of winning the league". If that really was the case most teams in the PL wouldn't have any players would they? Nor can I believe most teams would try and tempt a player by making such a bold claim either because if the player had half a brain he would simply laugh off such a suggestion from a team like Norwich, Fulham, Stoke, West Brom etc or any team outside the top 6 or so but these teams still get good players to join them. It can't be for the silverware in most cases, just doesn't make sense. Money is obviously a major factor in most cases although some players are happy to play for the team they supported as a nipper. What I do believe in many cases is the offer of regular play time at certain clubs for some players but what exactly motivates squad fringe players to sign up I don't know, I can only think it has to be the money.
well i have us at 100/1 after the first 2 games to finish top 4 stupid bet but stupid bets do come in sometimes
