The lockdown doesn't start till tomorrow, people are free to move around as they wish until then but most people are not venturing out today as there are very few shops open on sundays in Spain during the off season.
No the lockdown started at 21:30 last night other than emergencies. It’s clear as day, there’s even a f@cking van driving round with a massive speaker blaring out telling people.
Benidorm seriously page states it was initially meant for tomorrow but was changed to 21:30 last night. Spain just reported another 1,500 cases with 94 deaths. It’s sheer ignorance from these holidaymakers.
You haven’t seen the van driving round telling people to stay indoors? There are clear videos going round showing it. This place doesn’t seem to allow the pasting of links or I’d post it on here. It’s on the Benidorm seriously page.
I lived in Marbella for a couple years and have many pals there, they’ve been on lockdown since 9 last night other than essential shopping and medical. There’s videos galore on my Facebook of the Policia Local cornering people who are on the streets and forcing them indoors. It was moved forward due to the mammoth amount of cases reported in a 12 hour window (800 cases and 100 deaths). There are also several videos of the recorded messages being played last night to advise folk of the change and to get off the streets, as well as the world wide press clearly stating it’s in effect now. Tourists should not be flouting it on the streets. That’s a certain fact.

We've had no announcements round this way in Duquesa but I do live in a gated community. I've been self isolating since Monday so I've not had any contact with the outside world and have been relying on the news on tv and online. Originally all reports were the restrictions were to start at 8 am on Monday 16th of March but it started last night at 9pm. Apologies to the OP my information was old news.
It’s very scary mate and you’re doing the right thing. Stay safe. The brits over there at minute doing themselves no favours. I’m friends with a girl who works in western bar and she’s keeping me posted. Worrying times.
I've got a place near cartegena, we were out last week just to tidy everything up and it was perfectly normal, bars and restaurants saying they were quieter than normal but the Spanish were happy cos lots from Madrid had come down out of season, to get away from the virus doing the rounds in Madrid so boosting the local economy. We flew back Thursday morning. By Friday night everything was in lockdown, and now the blame is going on the folks from Madrid who brought the virus with them.
I think that might be why the lockdown was brought into immediate effect, my daughter has a luxury rental property company down here and a lot of her Spanish owners have been asking if their properties were available for them to use for the next couple of months, they are fleeing the capital in droves.
It could completely ruin the Spanish tourist industry. Girl I know relies heavily on tips to make ends meet. There’ll be countless others on that boat as well. I absolutely love Benidorm as a place. So eerie looking at videos of place looking like a ghost town.
We've just arrived for a 2 year contract in the south of France and looking after a rental property that goes for £15,000 a week ... ... I suspect we'll be having plenty of spare weeks to enjoy the pool.
