Just been watching the ESPN mid season show and they were talking about the different leagues around Europe and they were talking about Serie A and a few things stuck in my mind. The Italian American bloke (forgot his name now but knows his stuff) was saying if a manager is not working out then if they need to be sacked then it needs happening, you cannot keep someone if it is looking black in hope they will turn it around and they spoke about one club I cannot remember which and they were saying that if they sack the manager because it is not working then it is not so much a great loss because the manager is more of a head coach with a director of football and his team/staff having a long term plan how they want there club to play football and they are the ones that decide on the signings with a little imput from the manager. Now IMO that seems a better way to go, the thing about the premier league and english league is if you sack your manager then you are basically starting from scratch. Just say we sacked MoN in the summer and brought in a manager who has different idea's, wants his own backroom staff in and wants to play a good passing game then we would be starting from scratch and we wouldn't have continuity. With the director of football and his team you are always aiming to play a certain type of football so you have continuity in the club, yes it may take time you might have to sacrifice a season or two to get the team how you want it but once it is done you have continuity. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The day MoN leave's (hopefully its quite some time off) do you think SAFC as a club should look to go down this route or not
Seeing that the British way has led to this country (England that is) being one of the major forces in European football for 40 years then I'm happy to stay local and lets face it, do you really think that Mourinho isnt doing it his way or Guardiola? Top managers don't take **** from anyone. **** managers will happily take it up the arse just to keep their job. I'd rather have a manager with strong ideas and ideals and let him build up his team his way than a yes man who is effectively weaker than stale piss.
