British sensation Laura Robson cannot wait for her showdown with former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova, Sky Sports reports. Robson is a former All England Club champion herself, albeit in the junior event, and secured her first win at a Grand Slam by beating Angelique Kerber 4-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-3. The 17-year-old will now meet 2004 winner Sharapova on Court One later today, and she is relishing the occasion. Britain's No.7 said: "I'm really looking forward to playing Sharapova. I'm really happy to beat Kerber, but today is really important. "I'm just really hoping that I play my best. I'm going to be on Court One playing against Sharapova and I think that's pretty special. "I don't know if I can beat her. You've got to be confident going into these matches anyway, otherwise what's the point of going out there? "I know I can play really well. I just have to wait and see. Hopefully I can play as well as I know I can." Meanwhile, British No.1 Elena Baltacha will also be in action today. Her second round tie against 20th seed Shuai Peng is last on the Court Two schedule.
Laura played fantastically given her lack of experience and this should stand her in great stead for the future.
Laura should have won that 1st set due to Sharapova's poor serving but it wasn't to be. Sharapova's experience and height were huge factors, anyway all good experience for the plucky Brit. See you next year Laura.
