The news that Bart Hylkema, who was dominating the British F3 Rookie Cup class, has moved up to the main series is somewhat surprising. On the face of it, it seems like a young driver is just wanting to make a step up the racing ladder. But is it?

His only rival in the class was the somewhat erratic Kotaro Sakurai and in the last few rounds there had been several occasions where contact has been made between the two in the final laps of a race. As this was arguably down to Sakurai's over-eagerness is the only reason Hylkema has moved up to simply escape Kotaro?!

On a more serious note, the move to create the Rookie Cup instead of the National Class was supposed to increase numbers, but with there still being just two competitors (now only one) surely there needs to be another re-think to keep this part of an important F1 feeder series surviving.
