Just supposing that by the end of today we have signed Kjaer, and/or Carvalho, and/or M'Bia. Not only could we field a plausible eleven of non-Brits, but arguably there'd be no Brits in the first choice side. Doubt that's ever been true before. Even the manager's not English. Does it matter? To answer my own question, not as much as fielding a winning side. All other things being equal, however, I'd want to reinforce the British indeed English indeed London identity of the club.
AJ and BZ are English. Besides, our team will be as cosmopolitan as Shepherd's Bush is, which seems apt.
Wake up mate you can't have a open society and use the term non-brits ... It's a true reflection that Britain doesn't not produce enough footballers of the correct quality. London is not English you fool .. its a culturally diverse country within a country. Hopefully yours and this perception and opinion will die off in the next generation. Hold onto your culture if you wish of course and it needs serious review in my opinion as Made in Britain died a long time ago and to be honest it was all a bit of an illusion anyway. London is London because of one thing ... money
I understand the concern, but personally I think that the club have got the right strategy here in terms of the balance of players. Remember, we are signing established foreign talent like Granero and Mbia in order to make us stronger for this season and next. However, at the same time we are investing in a new training ground for the medium term, and in the short term we have the youth players training at bespoke facilities at The Park Club. We have re-vamped the whole youth coaching set-up, are getting our existing promising young players on long contracts (Harriman etc), and are now signing young talent from other clubs, such as Sam Magri. Itâs always good to see a local boy do well at QPR, which is why Iâll be so disappointed when DJ goes. But right now itâs about getting the best team we can in order to compete and progress in the premier league. In the long term though I think weâll see plenty of talented young British players getting in our first team.
Silly OP to be honest... very surpised the PC brigade havent crucified you ....yet.... Who cares where our players are from?..I'd love to see some local boys get in, but be honest, not that many English local boys in the bush anyway are there.?.. Think you were asking for trouble when you typed the title TBH....
The history of being british is that has ALWAYS being a fluid concept - there is a halcyon image of post war britain - but for the last 2000 years - lots of people have always come and gone from this island - this is what makes it great and not European - imo - I saw an image on the plinth of Nelson in Trafalgar square that showed black faces in the British Navy - half the british Navy was from all over - did they worry about who was from where? I think this is competitive advantage and we look like plans for a great local youth set up.
trying to think how i can get Col involved in this one....!! what if i said being british / english was a curse...would that do it ?!! lmfao
LaLa by name and LaLa by nature........... The OP calls himself a Queen and has a rainbow of colours on his Avatar. I think we can safely say he's not against diversity.
nothing wrong with having Queen in your name !! Unless your a little britain freak like Col.........."batten down the hatches"...lol
Heard you was in the shi*ter yourself Queensy. Hope everything's worked out. Good to hear from ye LaLa! The game's live on ESPN tomorrow so looking forward to it. Even if its a defeat, a solid performance will confirm we're headed in the right direction. It think you're right Tooting! I'll be in there in a couple of weeks myself, having a couple of pints of best Bitter. I'm actually making a game!
Thanx for the concernm mate, but no..things are worse....only reason im on here is to keep myself sane...Talking to you is not helping mate !
London identity? London is the most multicultural city in the World, surely. But I would like a few British players. Well, looking into the future, most of our young players coming through are British and the new lad we just signed from Pompey plays for England U-21.
The reason we are signing some foreign players is because the British players are so heavily over priced: Jordan Henderson - 20m? Stewart Downing - 20m? Jordan Rhodes - 8m? The list is endless.
