Just a bit of fun,but give it some serious thought,it's on both boards..... There is a new cup competition taking place between all of the towns and cities of England, only one team per population,we are allowed to choose a mix of the best players from each team in the area to make up a Bristol United team.. Based on current squads.... Who are your 11 first team players and 5 substitutes.....? We'll list the team of choices if we get enough people having a go...
no disrespect to rovers but i would have the city team and city subs James Skuse Fontaine Nyatanga Foster cisse kilkenny elliott adomah wood bolasie gerken wilson pearson pitman stead
James Foster Fontaine Wilson Sawyer Adomah Cisse Elliott Ayinsah Harrold Wood Subs Bevan Anthony Carayol Bolasie Pitman
I know Rovers will probably take this the wrong way, but how can they expect to have one of their players in an all-Bristol first 11? Genuine question, not a WUM, seriously Gas fans, is there anyone there with you who is NPC standard? A couple of seasons ago you could have nominated Lambo and I would have agreed (probably annoying some of my City brothers in doing so), but now? I really don't know but I doubt it - I think the best team would be made up from BCFC alone.
It's a bit daft comparing a Championship team with one from League 2. On his day, Carayol could possibly do a job in the NPC. Sawyer's played there and so has Gill. Harrold could be a squad player - a bit like that Ryan Taylor bloke you signed, a big striker who can put himself about a bit. Downes (on loan from the mighty Chesterfield!) has been surprisingly solid since he joined. Erm, that's it. One thing's for sure, any Bristol Utd team would get thrashed by virtually every other city and the majority of larger towns in the country! As a city we haven't exactly covered ourselves in football glory!
Comparisons are not the objective but you've given 5 valid names and I think Bevan and Anthony are 2 more..
i dont know how good your players really are as not seen them apart from albert when he was at barnet and he impressed me. i just go by your comments on here how good your players are. but seeing as your in the championship and were league 2, i dont think any of our players could get in your team. however, it would be interesting if we played each other now, who would come out top. i think we could give you another beating as your off form and were on it. i honestly think we could beat you but each player individually, i dont think our players would get in your team. but to make a bristol united and having 16 man squad, really it should be 8 players each. the 8 best players from rovers (for me) would be.... poke, downes, brown, carayol, gill, woodards, richards and harrold. the 8 best players from city (for me) based on what positions is left after fitting in the rovers 8 players and based on what i have picked up from comments from you 82ers would be.... james, nyatanga, skuse, kilkenny, adomah, pitman, wood and elliott. here is the bristol united for me

 james

skuse downes nyatanga brown

adomah gill kilkenny carayol

 pitman wood

subs gas - poke (gk) gas - woodards city - elliott gas - richards gas - harrold
I wouldn't agree with Bevan - he doesn't command his area the way a giant like him should, Wiz, and Byron is too accident prone. I'm quite looking forward to seeing Jim Paterson play though, I think he could be good for us. Do you reckon any of your lot could do a job in League 2?
from what i have seen from bevan, he is not very good at all. i rather have brian parkin back at his current age now anthony is 100% commited and wont give up but i think woodards, brown and downes been a lot better this season than anthony which is why i left both bevan and anthony out
I'll think L Johnson in midfield,Ryan Taylor up front and Wilson in defence and you would be well away but it's all about opinions..
Back in the fifties, (yes I know I’m getting old) and when, whisper it quietly, BRFC finished higher up the league than City for about 12 years (1949 to 1961 I think) there were to the best of my failing memory, at least two matches played by Bristol United. One I definitely remember, took place at Ashton Gate against Arsenal in aid of the St Mary Redcliffe Restoration fund. Whereas today’s team would have few stars in the true sense of the word and as admitted by Rovers fans, they would struggle to get more than the odd one in a united team, then there were three full internationals in the two first teams. Big John Atyeo, Geoff Bradford and Dai Ward of Wales. And wasn’t Rovers goalkeeper Howard Radford also a full Welsh cap? The gate was a mind boggling (to young fans today for whom anything over 15,000 is a big gate, was around 28,000. I think I still have a programme for this game, stored in a box under the bed but cannot find any reference to it elsewhere. Anyone have more details and also any other “United” matches in the Fifties or early Sixties. And just a few more who have played for both. Goalkeepers, Bob Anderson and Steve Phillips. Full back Tony Ford Forwards; Andy Micklewright and Barrie Meyer, who also played for Glos CC and later became a Test match umpire.. BM scored a first half hat-trick as did Shadow Williams in the same game for City at home to Southend in early sixties. Half time 6-0, final score 6-0. City were bloody inconsistent even in those days!
I'm like CJS here I don't know any Rovers players apart from what I hear, so I'm going to have the same rovers players as CJS as he knows them better. But change Nyatanga for Fontaine And Kilkenny for Pearson Elliot for Cisse.
Hard to disagree with cjs from a Rovers perspective. The only one I'd suggest is Woodards at RB. A consistent performer in defence who can also score (AFC Totton). Looks like he could play at a higher level.
Loads of players have played for both clubs. Trevor Jacobs, Ray Cashley, Peter Aitken, Donnie Gillies etc etc
Team for Bristol United, so far.. GK.....James. DR.....Skuse. DC.....Fontaine. DC.....Nyatanga. DL......Foster. MR.....Adomah. MC.....Cisse. MC.....Elliott. ML.....Kilkenny. St......Wood. St......Harrold. Sub...Gerken. Sub...Ayinsah. Sub...Pearson. Sub...Pitman. Sub...Bolasie. Back-up...Stead,Wilson,Poke,Bevan,Saywer,Anthony,Carayol,Downes,Brown,Gill,Woodwards and Richard who all get named... This is just a first shot based on information given,please carry on listing your own fair suggestions....
Angelic,on a personal level I agree with you but 2 people have named him, more than Stead or Pitman, this is on the "gas" board as well and is just a basic count back... Put up a team and it might change the choices...
