http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/pound-...stol-s-arena/story-19131258-detail/story.html This is great news. Finally we can have shows on our own doorstep rather than travelling to Cardiff, Birmingham, London etc...
Was embarrassing that a city of our size didn't have a Arena. Could have the worlds biggest names in Bristol FINALLY
i will believe it when it is completed we have been here before, broken promise after broken promise for our council for years
I'd welcome this but one thing puzzles me. I go past this area almost every day on the bus and if you're on the top deck it doesn't look like a particularly large space...though obviously they think it's big enough. On a lighter note I hope the noise and disruption doesn't cause problems for the nearby Cats and Dogs Home!
Anyone know who is starting the application for a Town/Village Green for this prime piece of recreational dog walking land?
Land is currently contracted out, but it will happen. GReat site and will revitalise the area. Lots of land to be used by the Old Royal mail building, Cattle market tavern still exists, land outside Temple Meads cleared. All points in one direction.
Good news and bad news really. Good that we can finally see some decent acts coming to Bristol Bad news for either clubs if both new stadiums go ahead. But I suppose with the Millenium not far, large open air can still go there. The Motorpoint arena in Cardiff only holds 3000 so Bristol get the acts who don't fancy the open air concerts. Not far for Shiny and LAN to go and see Bieber
There have never been any plans for an arena at Ashton Vale. V the site off Bath road it would be of little benefit to Bristol.
Are we talking about the land where the old parcel force is here because it looks a disgrace, as does the Cattle market tavern being left to just rot away?
Yes there was..!! http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/bristol/hi/people_and_places/newsid_8809000/8809559.stm
Theres a cad design picture in the link. You said "there have never been any plans for an arena at Ashton Vale" The plan was to build it at the same site. read the link..
Driving to Briz on Bath road it's the land. behind the hoardings on the left approaching the junction to Totterdown/Knowle. From the road it looks small but the site actually is very large and extends away from the road at an angle. It's separated from the old mail site by the river.
I wish they would do something with that mail building its a complete ****in eyesore and right there in view when visitors arrive in Bristol. I assume its been listed due to its 1960's architecture!!!
Steve Lansdown stated there was no plan in public. There are no real drawings, no planning. applcation, nothing. It was something to think about about and got no further.
Plan for a music arena at Ashton Vale... it was quietly dropped when the area was split in half to try to appease the nimbys. the planning application for an arena was being pushed by the City council. None of it has got any further unfortunately.. please log in to view this image
Last one. Anthony Butcher is a anti stadium long Ashton councillor. That image is from his blog. There were never any real plans, no drawings, no costings, nada. It was a could, a very empty could, never a would. Mr Lansdown may have been been playing politics hinting at a "possibility".
