brb having missed the 4-0 Gills win in our last encounter, takes a look back to a past meeting he attended on 17th December 2011 and his views at the time:

    Gillingham 4 - 1 Bristol Rovers

The highest Priestfield attendance so far this season 7,750 witnessed the Gills 4-1 League Two emphatic victory over Bristol Rovers on Saturday 17th December 2011.

The festive spirit started with Tommy T (Gills Mascot) following the teams out on to the pitch in his Santa hat. While a group of Santa's were spotted occupying the Rainham End, showing that the pre Christmas celebrations were obviously well and truly under way, or under the influence of the festive spirit.

Although to the immediate disgruntle of the Gills fans, Bristol Rovers attempted to be the early humbugs by appearing to win the toss and making the teams switch ends, forcing the Gills to kick towards the Rainham End in the first half.

However, the fans disgruntled noise was soon to turn to one of cheer as Lewis Montrose comfortably headed home a cross from the left by Danny Jackman, within eight minutes of the start and right in front of the home fans.

Bristol Rovers never created any real chances in the first half and then just before half time, Montrose went down in the box, from my view in the Medway Stand it appeared a soft penalty, that Danny Kedwell gratefully stepped up and converted from the spot to put the Gills 2-0 up at half time. Although Bristol Rovers may look to that one decision of the game, they had already used up their fortune, because they should have been two down long before that decision and I felt before then that they were fortunate that Frank Nouble did not go down in the box under a challenge.

In the second half Rovers pulled a goal back when number 11 Carayol seemed to breeze past the Gills on 52 minutes, to give the 246 travelling fans a brief moment of hope.

That hope was to turn to despair for the Gas, when on 68 minutes man of the match Danny Jackman made it 3-1, after picking up on the opposition keeper's parry from a Frank Nouble attempt on goal.

Overall I thought that Bristol Rovers were really disappointing and it was easy to see why they currently occupy 18th place in League Two. I am still undecided to whether Bristol Rovers were the worst team I had seen at Priestfield this season, or whether it was that Andy Hessenthaler has got a team, that were so convincing that they truly can contend for a top three promotion place.

The real test of the Gills quality will come on Boxing Day away at Crawley, however, for now we were to enjoy the moment.

Things were to get worse for Bristol Rovers on 73 minutes when the Rovers number five Bolger, saw red for bringing down Curtis Weston in the box and Danny Kedwell converted his second penalty of the game to make it 4-1.

So where was the Bristol Rovers leading scorer, number nine Matt Harrold, I read reports later stating he had an illness. That is not the only problem that the Pirates and Paul Buckle will be hoping to cure, to avoid having to fight for their League Two survival come the end of the season.

The Gills are now unbeaten for eight league and cup games, currently in a playoff place and a lucrative tie against Stoke City to look forward to in January.

Finally this match was the end of Frank Nouble's loan spell with the Gills, so I would like to say a big thank-you to him on behalf of all the Gills fans and if a deal is not available in the January window I wish him all the best for the future.

Hi brb, my honest opinion is that I would settle for a draw now, your boys seem to have a sign over us in recent times, that and the fact we are looking for some stability and at this moment in time fighting a relegation battle would do nicely, if we beat you I would be well chuffed, so come Saturday may the best team win, good luck.

I think it will probably be a game won by the odd goal.

Sorry The Gills PegLeg, as per rules if you want your own goal scorer to count for points, you have to name the player.

table dont lie so gills win but then again barnet beat you guys recently so i can only hope we get something. like my fellow gashead solongsoblue said above, a draw would be a great result for us but we really need the 3 points. i fear though we will get beat and i say 3-0.

however i reserve the right to change my mind depending on new signing i really hope we bring in <ok>

So pleased I got my prediction on the Southend game wrong! Top of the league and hopefully we can now push on with second half of the season?
I like Bristol and hope they can start to make progress but not this Saturday.

I am going for a Gills win

Looks as though as long as you turn up you've got three points.
No chance of a wobble then??

I think we would be very foolish to think all we have to do is turn up. December was our worst month this season and allowed others to close the gap at the top. I hope the signing of Legge from Brentford and the fantastic win at Southend has helped us back on track. However, I cannot believe the signing of one player suddenly changed our game. So nothing taken for granted, just bias hope.
