Pompey Academy won 4-2 on the road to beat Bristol Rovers in the Youth Alliance League for the second time in the space of a fortnight Tayo Singerr’s 15th goal of the season opened the scoring before Chinedu Agu bent home a second before the break. The hosts fought their way back in to the contest by striking twice either side of Nathaniel Chioma’s finish on the break. But substitute Jayden Keteku then slipped a pass through for Chioma to make sure of the points late on. Lead professional development phase coach Sam Hudson said: “I’ve spoken in recent weeks about how it’s taken us a while to really get going in games. “So it was incredibly pleasing that we were excellent in the first half and the build-up along the back-line was great – we dominated the ball. “It probably helped that we’d played them so recently and that meant we could have a real focus on what we’d done well last time and where we needed to improve. “We had a few chances and went in two goals ahead at the break, having also probably missed the easiest of our opportunities. “Then we had a discussion about how it was important for us to really put down a marker and remain positive. “But we started the second half sloppily and I’m not sure the reason why – perhaps there was a little bit of complacency. “We started doing everything wrong all over the pitch and conceded quite quickly after our opponents went a bit more direct. “Bristol Rovers eventually seemed to run out of energy after scoring their second and it was only the introduction of Jayden that settled us down. “They were his first minutes for some time after suffering an ankle ligament injury and it was great to see him back on the pitch. “He controlled the midfield during the closing stages and it was fitting that he played the through ball for Nat’s second that killed the game off. “We were probably good for about 75 per cent of the game and we just need to make sure we find a ruthless edge to hurt teams when we’re on top.
