What makes me laugh is most of those guys, sitting around the edge of the pitch were bus and coach drivers, they use to dash out just before the match ended to get the engines started up for a fast getaway, the vehicles were parked 2 and 3 wide all the way up along side Smythe park, chaos theory reigned... please log in to view this image A bit like this, only a lot more...
I was a Bristol bus driver from 1965 to mid 1967 when I left to get a proper job. But I never did a football special.
I was 6, when that Man City game was played.Went to my first home game 1970, a 4-0 win against Norwich. John Galley after 2 minutes followed by 3 further 2nd half goals. Remember it well. A couple of years back, Chris Garland was signing copies of his book, I said to him that the last time, I got his autograph was when I was 9. He agreed that it did quite age us!- I was too young ever to have seen the great John Atyeo play. Would loved to have seen that.
would have been there on the east end,13 yearsold, it broke my heart to miss any home game, can almost smell the ***s and stale beer,
I remember most of the Man City players like Harry Dowd, Mike Doyle, Mike Summerbee etc. They became a lot more famous when they were back in the top division and had the likes of Joe Corrigan (who also turned up to Gerry Gows testimonial), Frannie Lee, Rodney Marsh and co. Fond memories..
'above him at Millfield' - RODney went to Millfield ???? I'm not having that - Since when did a top school offer Concrete in their syllabus. Hang on - with what he comes out with - perhaps they did.
