My mother's family came from up north where they owned a hotel. I was convinced they came from Leeds so I was doing some research on the internet, hoping to combine attending our match at Leeds on 23rd January with locating the hotel, when I discovered that my great-great-grandfather actually played for Bristol City (or Bristol South End as they were called back then).
He (and that side of my family) were more into Cricket (which I am not) and used to talk about it all the time and never mentioned football, which is why I have only just found this fact out. This page doesn't make much of it either - mainly focussed on cricket.

Anyone else had a relative who played for us?

Cheers for this R&W, a fascinating read.
Opened the bowling for Somerset aged 53 - amazing.

Thanks RP - the trophies mentioned as being on loan by the family - the family is my dad and my uncle and the trophies are some cups and a clock and a mounted cricket ball.
