Bristol City Manager Lee Johnson believes that the club will receive plenty of transfer interest in striker Jonathan Kodjia this summer as the player continues to impress in the Championship according to the Bristol Post. The 26 year old striker joined The Robins last summer and signed a three year deal at Ashton Gate. Kodjia has excelled this season topping City’s goal scoring charts and is likely to be one of the Championship’s most popular transfer targets in the summer. The French-Ivorian star has already netted 15 times for Bristol City this season and his goal contribution has helped guide the club away from the relegation zone after a difficult start to life back in the Championship. The striker is far from being the finished product but possesses huge potential and could prove to be a real bargain for Premier League clubs who are looking to develop players who they feel can make the step up to English football’s top level. Bristol City’s change in transfer policy over the summer saw the club focus on scouting players from overseas rather than the Premier League and Football League. This change has proved to be a success with Kodjia being signed from former club Angers for just £2.1 million. Before joining The Robins, Kodjia spent his entire career in France playing for Reims, Cherbourg, Amiens, Caen and Angers. http://the72.co.uk/50813/bristol-city-boss-awaits-kodjia-interest/
I think we'll be alright this summer in keeping him. Should he have 8+ goals come the January window and we're struggling again, then we might see someone bid... Hopefully he doesn't score to many more, if he gets another 4-5 then yeah, someone might just come in, he's scored the same amount as Gray did in his first season and we still have games left, so if he is solf I hope we're holding out for a minimum of 7m! About time we did the hard ball rather than coming up against it!
Could be clever talk. Jury is still out on him for me. Impressed with his speed early doors, but I think defences have worked him out and his body language was all wrong for a while. Yes, he did get 2 goals last week but by then we were already 4-0 up and to be fair, Bryan deserved all the credit for the last one, there was no need for him to toe poke the ball over. Needs far too many chances for any prem team to want to invest, Championship at best.
What are we thinking when we are already talking about getting rid of one of our better players? I always thought that if you could find a good player then you hung on to them as long as possible. Have we ever sold a player on for more than 2 million, and when we are talking about over 5 million then we have vanished in to the stupid zone. Surviving in this division takes lots of ridiculous money and you only have to look at our pathetic visit to the expensive zone this season to get my point, so when I hear this kind of banter coming from our supposed leaders I start to wonder if we know what we're doing. I believe that during the upcoming off season we will all get a harsh reality check on how ill prepared Bristol City are to attain the goals set out by Steve Lansdown.
Agree 100% with you,Kojak is not the real deal,no where near it. To be frank why LJ is talking up our players when they have struggled all season. Joe Bryan and Kojack being major culprits. Premiership not a chance at present LJ.
Christ moving to a foreign country to play football on a fantastic wedge, most young men would give their high teeth for it. Nowt to do with footy, but my youngest at 18 after doing sixth form, worked his socks off to get the minimum 3 A★ just to have a chance of getting into medicene. He managed to get a placement at Leeds Medical uni at 18 years old, only 500 selected out of 5000 applications. He then had to move up there for a minimum five years stint+a possible extra three years with no income.A young lad who has had a loving and careing home for 18 years. Now that is wanting something badly with no rewards in the early years, just one big debt to pay back. A footballer has everything put on a plate for them, yet someone wanting something so badly with no income for a minimum of five years that is what i call a massive change to ones life.
Maybe Kodjia's agent has already indicated on the quiet that his client wants a move in the summer. For all we know he could be home sick and want a return to France. LJ may have other transfer targets lined up and SL has told him to sell Kodjia to generate some dosh. Southampton is a good example of a club that is not frightened to sell players if the price is right. They spend the money wisely and with an excellent academy / scouting network have maintained the quality of their first team squad.
