Confucius says, 'When a precious seed is planted you must wait until the Spring to see the shoots.' Keep the faith oldboy!
No I wouldn't say 18 games due to transition, I would say 9 plus the cup games possibly..Why? because take our last team in the champs:- basically the first column 01 Heaton ...............................gone ............................................ 01 Fielding 00 Fontaine ...............................gone............................................02 Moloney 05 Nyatanga...............................gone............................................05 Flint 06 Carey 17 Cunningham ................................................................................................................................26 Bryan 08 Kilkenny 21 Anderson...............................gone............................................28 McLaughlin 24 Reid 07 Baldock 18 Taylor .............................injured 02 Foster...............................gone............................................22 Shorey 10 Kelly .................................injured 25 Elliott 27 Adomah ...............................gone............................................10 Emmanuel-Thomas 25 Ajala 29 Burns ....................................................................................................03 Williams ....................................................................................................24 O'Connor ...................................................................................................11 Wagstaff ....................................................................................................23 Harewood .........................................................................................................21 Pack ..........................................................................................................13 Parish more than 6 of the last team not playing anymore potentially there is 8-9 newbies..! in the team that plays
Tis not an easy road we choose, or if lucky chooses us. Anyone one of us could be a glory hunter and support one of the "big clubs". A Man U, Chelsea, etc. Instead we choose to support our local team. Through the thick and thin. I have supported city (like many others on here ) since they were in the "old second division" and lets face it there have been more lows than highs, but that makes the good times even more enjoyable. Just think how good that win is going to feel !! I got my lad as a four year old supporting city, and now 20 he still is an avid fan. We lived in Leeds when they were competing in the champions league, had season tickets and saw the likes of Madrid, Milan etc. We knew some of the players. Most were dickheads apart from Nigel Martyn who was a really nice, normal bloke. My son was friends with his son. My lad still chooses to support city despite those early influences, respect to him. My point is that the pain and frustration we all feel is part of choosing to support city. It's not easy, but its what binds us together and makes us who we are. It makes me proud when travelling the UK and europe when asked who I support, to which I always answer "the mighty Bristol City.
Even little clubs win the occasional game Transition ? Sounds like an easy excuse to me. Been there, seen it done it with work, and the end result is never what people want to see
Well said Raver, I wouldn't have swopped something like the 3-0 win against Bolton at Wembley for a run in the Champions league (or would I). The whole day was something I will never forget, from picking people up at Temple Meads, swapping beers with other supporters in the motorway queue, a friendly atmosphere and a win. Those feelings probably come from my low expectations (nurtured through years of mediocrity) and BCFC's relative lack of success throughout the years. I live in Cardiff and don't see a great feeling of elation and joy in their elevation to the prem. just moans about change of colour, glory hunting fans and foreign owners.
That was one amazing day and is right up there with when I saw us beat Leeds away in the Cup. Went up on a coach run by BT for reasons I now forget, but walking up Wembley Way, the 3 goals and seeing your team run out, and win and such a place was immense. We all glory hunt to a degree when we're kids. Aside from City I also supported WHU and my kids in turn supported Chelsea and Man U. We grew out of it of course although at the moment it's as bad here as it's been for a long long time...!
You use transition as a dirty word. However, the fact is that the club could not go on losing £14m every year (even ignoring the FFP regulations). Interesting about "glory hunters" - we are down to 10,000 now - where have the other 3,000 gone?? We took nearly 40,000 to Wembley/Cardiff where's that 30,000??
Trust me, when I have seen transitions for customers go wrong (which is frighteningly frequently btw), it usually ends up with shouting, screaming, and fingers being pointed at those carrying out the transition because what the other people have ended up with is nothing like they expected, and basically it doesnt work and never will. Just sounding a note of caution, once bitten and all that !
Saw Yeovil v Leicester last night. Great entertainment for the neutral, bloody pleasure to see how a football match can be enjoyed. Makes you realise how WRONG SOD and the Board are to pursue his idiotic vision.
"Makes you realise how WRONG SOD and the Board are to pursue his idiotic vision" Please outline your alternative vision so I can assess if you actually do have a better long term plan we could implement.? You may change my mind.. I keep reading criticism of all and sundry but no one has yet offered a single alternative plan?
Our vision seems to be buy players young on the cheap, not buy overrated journeymen, and try bring academy players through, isn't that what everyone's been crying out for!? Like Bansky said, what do you want?? whats Redprintt's great fantastic vision apart from playing Elliot every game??
If you like and think SOD's version is the way forward then we disagree. Why I bother to educate you lot I don't know but here goes. SOD's version allows s**t teams to get back behind the ball and deny us space. We're never going to be a Barcelona, Bayern or Man City (I'm drawing 'pictures' for Logger) - they play totally different styles but importantly they have players with the ability to implement their own different 'style'. Also like the way Southampton play and how they press in the opponents half. I know they play in the Prem but it's about having players who can play the style the manager wants. This is the crux for me - We DON'T Leicester, last night couldn't wait to get the ball forward at times from Schmeichel. Other times he'd throw, his distribution is excellent. From that they'd thread early balls FORWARD along the ground. They're able to do that as space is still there - they don't waste time going back and for the back four 3 or 4 times as we do. Basically, I'm advocating getting the ball forward quicker while space is there - the absolute opposite of SOD's plan. Logger, You're not with me are you ? I guessed as much. The above is free - you'll need to pay for further advice.
Clog it up front as soon as possible then.! it's hardly a vision but I suppose you have at least offered something... I'm gonna stick with SOD for now as I'm not convinced by your visionary plan.. but hey, maybe later..
Leicester have a better team to play more fast flowing football that can create spaces on the football pitch, they can spend millions upon millions on players to play that kind of way, we don't. If you haven't noticed we're £50million in debt, and have to resort to plucking out players from small clubs such as Swindon.. Think I'd rather pay to hear SODs interviews than your advice, thanks for the offer though.
My twopennyworth for what it's worth, as one who really wants all 'West Country' to do well. Life I reckon is full of grey...not black and white. Rights and Wrongs, Lefts and Rights, Good and Evil: all these standpoints can lead to bigotry, distrust and animosity. So your new manager wants a root and branch change of approach. That's fine, and probably needed. But why can't you win a few league matches along the way? He is an experienced manager. He inherited a squad and has been able to bring a fair number of players in, and also blood some youngsters. Is he unable to manage the resources at his disposal in such a way that you might win a league match? He's brought in 'keepers, defenders, midfielders and strikers. He can undertake his philisophical changes surely and put you in a secure league position. The two needn't be mutually exclusive. 'Bye..................
