If the Jak does get brought back I'm dreading his first mistake and the reaction on here. Having said that I want him back in the side.
What confuses me is before the Newcastle game - imagine MP thinking to himself - what does the jak have to do to get in the starting 11 If keeping us in the game for120 minutes before saving 2 penalties wasn't going to cut it - what the **** was?
Newcastle had 5 shots on target. He made four saves in 120 minutes. This is a perfect example of how everything he does gets exaggerated.
Including a point blank header that he tipped over the bar. You seem insistent on dumbing down his performances to average. Nobody is exaggerating, the lad is playing really well and isn't getting picked, it's not on.
I'm saying it's obviously exaggerated. 5 shots in target in total in the game. 1 went in. 4 saves in total including any easy ones.
Pick your best performing players. Put your best starting 11 into the most suitable formation for the players available. It's not a difficult job, yet Phelan seems adept at making a complete pigs ear of it. I'm more concerned about his post match comments after Middlesbrough. 'We were in the game'.? FFS Mike, not sure which game you watched, but it was an entirely different game to the horror show every one on here was subjected to watching.
And 2 penalty saves. Why does the amount of opposition shots have anything to do with it? If they had 1 and he saved it, he's had a good game. If there was ever a time to say 'Okay, he's earned his place in the starting line up', it was after the Newcastle game.
He was alright, wasn't at fault for the goal. He isn't shouty enough for me though, I'd like to see him orchestrating his defence a little better.
My view for what its worth is that Marshalll is immobile, many of the 20 odd he;s conceded have been past him before he's moved. With one or two exceptions and they are much better much much better keepers than him, Cech, Forster... Premiership keepers are at first agile and gobby and i'm sorry to say, Marshall is not. I am of firm belief that he's the first name along with Mason on the team sheet !!
