Been to all the home games this season and thoroughly enjoyed the win over villa, but the highlight of the match for me has to be some of the genius chants i heard today. such as "1-0 and you fu***d it up! 1-0 and you fu***d it up!1-0 and you fu***d it up!" and "We're taking the piss, we're taking the piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssss, WE AE SOUTHAMPTON WE'RE TAKING THE PISS" May have been sung before but first time i have heard them singing it from the kinglsland stand and made me smile. Good result, good turnout and hope it continues. side note (amazed only 13, 000 people turned up for Wigan Fulham. I know they are not the biggest teams in the premiership. But we were getting bigger turnouts in league 1)
'1 nil and you f****d it up' is also a generic and standard chant for comebacks. Nothing particularly inventive about them and surely the highlight of the match was the second half performance and four goals delivering our first points of the season! Anyway, each to their own, glad people can enjoy chants served up by good football and a tasty win.
This is a longshot kind of but was anyone at the home game against Fulham in 2002 and remember it? We went 2-0 down and won 4-2 and our crowd was VERY loud singing 2-0 and you ****ed it up. Much louder than today. First game that springs to mind to compare the chant of today to since it was Premierleague. Hoping for that sort of atmosphere again as the season progresses. Thought we lacked noise today and could make St Mary's an extremely difficult place to come if we can amp the noise level up more. Just looked the game up and strangely there were only 26,188 attending, made a lot of noise considering .
Best bit for me was on MOTD when the whole crowd were chanting Nigel's name. He looked genuinely moved!
That made me a little disconcerted. Perhaps he was emotional because he knows it won't go on for much longer.
Ah fair enough. I have been at university at Swansea for the last 3 years so have only been able to see southampton play during the holidays. Now i have graduated and am unemployed i get to see southampton play week in week out
Something wrong there, surely? I used to count the days until I could go back. Best time of my life! Sport, sex, and beer. Is the problem that you may be a long way from St. Mary's?
Something tells me SootySaint may not have been to many games for the last 4 years? hardly genius chants, they are ever presents at St Marys and any other ground in England
Depends what you count many games as? I went to as many games as i could when i was not at university. Merely stating the chants that made me smile. Unfortunately many of the games i went too southampton ended up drawing or losing so i did not get to hear these chants. I hope to hear them a lot more now i no longer am at university, passed my driving test and finally saved up for a car and insurance so i can get down to all the home games and hopefully some away games. (the season ticket helps )
