Adam Webster: Brighton make bid for Bristol City defender https://www.skysports.com/football/...r-brighton-make-bid-for-bristol-city-defender Brighton have made an offer worth in the region of £20m plus add-ons for Bristol City defender Adam Webster, Sky Sports News understands
I think i heard on talk sport this morning that we want 25mil for him......not sure we could refuse such a bid..
Would this deal for Webster open up a series of follow up movements? We need something considerably better to come our way if we truly want to be a contender this season. Perhaps the next few days will see some serious shift in our incoming talent.
Could we entice Tammy Abraham to come with the £20m, or will he feel he has a real shot at being heavily involved in the Chelsea 1st team this season?
I was hoping to see we’d signed a striker, I don’t want to see any outgoings to be honest , I hope this doesn’t materialise . I know their PL , but as others have said probably not for long , hold out for better.
I can understand a player wanting to move up to the Premiership but the last 2 to leave on that basis didn't last very long, and I feel Brighton can only offer a similar scenario. Good luck to Webster whatever his decision and if he does go then I hope we see some scoring power arriving at Ashton Gate. We can but dream.
It’s too late in the window, had they bid earlier when we could have spent the money wisely fair enough, this late if we are serious about wanting to make a challenge tell em to do one.
Easy to say. Judging by Webster's performance on Saturday he has already got one foot out the door. Pointless forcing a player to stay if we get offered that kind of money. How do you justify it to him and expect him to just get on with it. Anyone in his position would want to move for six times the salary.
Abraham arrived a day before kick off, Kalas and DaSilva arrived a game or two into the season. So it’s not too late really. Brighton are not looking at it as too late, nor are a lot of the Prem teams and also clubs in the championship.
Of course deals can be done late , but they take planning , they don’t just happen overnight, I’m hoping we get at least one in before deadline day but they’ve been working on Those for ages
I’m sure he will if the money is right , but at some point we have to keep our best players and get there ourselves or else what’s the point.
The report says they’ve been rejecting bids for a while now. I bet they’ve already got replacements lined up. Also Taylor Moore has been used a lot this preseason so won’t surprise me if he’s used. The elusive striker will be a loan
I’m sure it will all work out , I’m just disappointed, I knew it was likely, but hoped we’d keep him . I was expecting a loan before the Webster money, we won’t spend anything like what we get for Webster on his replacement, surely won’t that mean we can use some to improve on the quality of striker we were looking at, or if not at least mean we can bring in a couple of better quality players throughout, maybe RB and CM .
Agree, I thought we had seen off the interest. It will be a test of the clubs resolve, as the reported bid £20m is still some way short, about £5m, of our reported £25m price tag, so we shall see...... Although, just read this on the BBC site, it has an air of being resigned to this happening from LJ's tones, but also that they have a plan... Speaking earlier on Tuesday, City boss Lee Johnson confirmed there had been bids made for the defender. "Once big moves start happening, you wouldn't believe the domino effect that has on all the rest of us," Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol. "I expect there to be stories from Ashton Gate, both ins and outs. Webby has done fantastically well, but the market is the market. "The value of the player, given a lot of the stuff that goes on in the domino effect, is always there. "Nobody is unsellable, but at the same time you have got to be ready, and I won't recommend that we move anybody on if we don't feel like we have a succession plan," Johnson continued. "I'm probably not quite as confident [of keeping Webster] as I was but that's mainly due to the sheer level of interest, and it's not just in Webby." Meanwhile, Johnson added that ex-Portsmouth defender Nathan Thompson, a free agent, will not be joining City after a trial.
Sounds like there may be a few moves afoot . I still don’t think there’s anything in the Newcastle story , the guys too old. I think they will have a Young player in mind to ‘bring on’ again. I still think Brighton is not the best move for Webster.
Might not be, but looking at the fees for Harry Maguire and Dunk banded about, if he does a good job he will move on. = more money for us.
Ashton is a canny operator he will get a good deal with a hefty sell on clause no doubt , we must invest some of the fee now though surely.
