Sunderland misfit Liam Bridcutt is on the verge of a loan switch to Championship Leeds United. The £2.5million midfielder hasn't made an appearance for the Black Cats this season despite being included in the 25-man Premier League squad. And reports today suggest he is set to sign for Steve Evans at Elland Road, teaming up with fellow Sunderland outcast Will Buckley. Leeds are desperate to strengthen their struggling squad and Bridcutt is surplus to requirements at the Stadium of Light. Bridcutt is set to sign for the Yorkshire side on loan until January and could make his debut against Cardiff on Tuesday night if Leeds complete the paperwork in time. Evans said: "I have given a list to [head of recruitment] Martyn Glover and to the owner of a number of players that we think can help us. "We may get one done today, we are literally waiting to see if we can get that over the line in time and done but we possibly need to bring in around three players before the loan window closes in late November. "Then we get the chance between this period and December to evaluate everyone and make a decision on how we are to go forward. "It wouldn’t be fair to me say who it is but the one thing I would say is that we have identified a number of players in each position and my first choice in this department of this team would be the one that we are very close to. "But you don’t always get them in that particular order." While the ex-Chelsea man was a favourite of former Sunderland boss Gus Poyet, he was used sparingly by Dick Advocaat – starting just one of the final nine games of last season - and is yet to feature this campaign under new boss Sam Allardyce. Sunderland are not prepared to make a hefty loss on the £2.5million they paid Brighton to sign Bridcutt 18 months ago, even if his wages could be covered during a loan stint in the Championship.
Send him out on loan, and if the worst happens and we get relegated, Bridcutt and Buckley might become handy next season in the Championship.
See what the damage to Catts is before we ship him out - might need him for the bench. Already lost Toivonen & Rodwell is made of glass. I'd sooner get the likes of Lynden Gooch a go ahead of Bridcutt mind.
I don't think Bridcutt would be any use in the Championship to be honest. I don't know if he had photos of Poyet taking a dump in the Brighton dressing room or what but I've never seen him have even an acceptable game.
Good luck to the lad.. Nowt against him just not good enough for premiership football. Wont be feeling sorry for him and his 10k a week championship wages!
I posted that on 2nd Nov matey Was when Catts was subbed against Everton iirc and we didn't know the damage. Doesn't matter what position he plays, he'd still be more use than Bridcutt!!
Agree - He never panicks and is solid in the tackle but did not live up to the reputation landed on him by Gus - his small statue is a massive issue in the premiership though .... good luck to him
