Very interesting interview, certianly good to hear from a Gills legend who's record has standed the test of time. Unfortunately for us I don't see his record being broken any time soon. There's not enough loyalty in the game these days for players to last 12 years, let alone score as many as he did for one club. Me personally, I would like to see someone like Cody or Kedwell going on to break that record, but will they be here for another 10 years? I don't think so somehow.
Used to go into the newsagent when I first moved to Gillingham some 30 odd years ago - of course I had no clue who Yeo was!, One of the neighbours told me in the end. Seems so long ago R
Used to pop in and say hello to Brian when he had the shop! It was so different back then! I remember when we knew where the players lived and would go round and knock on the door for a football chat...Ken Price and David Peach were always very welcoming!
I was there the night he made his debut. I remember they played him wide on right, and we felt what a good prospect he was going to be. How right we were!(Somebody said Portsmouth were merging Youth/Reserves as they had financial problems. Nothing changes! ) He probably would have had more goals if the abysmal Basil Hayward had not insisted on playing him at no 4 for a while. I assume because he was only player we had at the time who was any good at passing. Only one of five players so far in the Gills Hall of Fame..and rightly so. If you pass by an empty Priestfied on a dark and frosty night, you will hear a ghostly crowd echoing............. "YEE - OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - YEE - OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO "
Obvious legend... but was he really more legendary than SBT? Very different Gills careers: Yeo a consistent goalscorer for many, many years; Taylor an absolutely incredible striker for one and a half seasons (before being snapped up... damn City!)
